Pride Month - Week 3! 🌈

Pride month is celebrated in June every year world-wide as a commemoration for the Stonewall uprising that began in New York on 28th June, 1969. The Stonewall riots became a symbol of resistance to social and political discrimination that inspired unity amongst the LGBTQ+ community and sparked the formation of multiple gay rights organisations. 💗

These riots are often referred to as the ‘first pride’ and every year since, there has been annual pride marches on this date as well as a month-long recognition for the LGBTQ+ community and their history.

Pride Month - Week 2! 🥳

Throughout Pride Month it is not uncommon to see the rainbow flag proudly displayed as a symbol for the LGBTQ rights movement. The rainbow flag was designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978 to represent the dawn of a new gay conscious and freedom. Baker saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky, and as a universal symbol that works in any language around the world. 🌏

The various colours on the rainbow flag have come to reflect the immense diversity and the unity of the LGBTQ community.
If you would like to take part in Pride Month throughout June – we encourage you to wear the colours of the rainbow to show your support! 🌈

All around the world Pride Month is celebrated throughout June. This is a month dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices and showing our support towards creating safe and open spaces for everyone. 🌈

Every year the flu virus can change which is why the flu vaccines are seasonal, as the strains in the vaccine also change to keep up with the evolving virus. This is why it is important you get your flu vaccine each year so that you can stay most protected against the flu and prevent infection. 🧬😷

We are likely to see an increase of influenza spreading in our communities this year due to the opening of New Zealand borders. Getting your flu vaccine is your best defence against influenza, especially for those at higher risk of getting sick including those over 65, pregnant or with certain health conditions such as diabetes. 😷
