When someone is grieving, it’s often the simplest acts of kindness that stay with them the longest. A quiet message to let them know you’re thinking of them, dropping around a home-cooked meal, or inviting them out for a coffee can bring gentle comfort during a difficult time.

It doesn’t have to be big or elaborate—just showing up in a way that feels natural can be a reminder they’re not alone.

Pallbearers are often one of the quiet but meaningful roles within a funeral service. They are family members or close friends chosen to carry a loved one’s casket during the service.

Usually, six people share this role, walking together with care and respect under the guidance of the funeral director. It’s often seen as an honour — a final act of love and support as they accompany someone on their final journey.

Some days, the ache of loss feels overwhelming, and you find yourself wishing you could hear their voice just one more time. When you love someone deeply, there are days when that longing can feel heavier than words. This is a natural part of the ebbs and flows of grief, a reminder that each day will bring its own rhythm.

The Easter season can stir emotions and memories that are both comforting and painful. Loss doesn’t follow a timeline, and special occasions can sometimes amplify the sense of absence you feel.

You may find comfort in sharing stories with family or friends, or in quiet moments alone, reflecting on the memories you hold. Simple gestures, like lighting a candle or visiting a meaningful place, can help you honour them in your own way.

Grief isn’t one feeling — it’s many, often all at once. It can shift from moment to moment, holding opposite feelings side by side.

When a loved one passes away, it can feel overwhelming to know who to call first. If the passing was expected, your first call should be to the doctor or medical professional who can confirm the death. Once this is complete, call us on 09 445 9800 — we’ll gently guide you through the next steps and bring your loved one into our care.

If the passing was unexpected or the cause is unclear, your first call should be to the Police, who will arrange the transfer of your loved one to the coroner. When you’re ready, contact us, and we’ll work with the coroner to bring your loved one into our care and begin funeral arrangements.

We’re here to support you whenever you need us. 🤍
