When children experience loss, it’s important to help them feel safe and understood. Use simple, honest language to explain what’s happened — picture books can be helpful for younger children — and reassure them that all feelings are okay.

Encourage them to talk, ask questions, or express their feelings through drawing or writing. Look through photos or recall happy memories together. Most importantly, be there for them, listen with an open heart, and follow their lead when it comes to their needs.
