Grief isn’t one feeling — it’s many, often all at once. It can shift from moment to moment, holding opposite feelings side by side.
Whatever you feel — every feeling has its place in your journey.

When a loved one passes away, it can feel overwhelming to know who to call first. If the passing was expected, your first call should be to the doctor or medical professional who can confirm the death. Once this is complete, call us on 09 445 9800 — we’ll gently guide you through the next steps and bring your loved one into our care.

If the passing was unexpected or the cause is unclear, your first call should be to the Police, who will arrange the transfer of your loved one to the coroner. When you’re ready, contact us, and we’ll work with the coroner to bring your loved one into our care and begin funeral arrangements.

We’re here to support you whenever you need us. 🤍

Memories can be both comforting and confronting. They remind us of the love, laughter, and moments shared, yet they can also bring a quiet ache for someone who is no longer here.

Flowers have a way of speaking from the heart. A casket spray or carefully chosen arrangement can reflect the colours, passions, and personality of your loved one, creating a tribute as unique as their life.

Whether you select blooms in their favourite colours, designs inspired by their passions, or symbolic flowers like red roses, each arrangement is a gentle way to celebrate the memories you hold dear.

Living by the coast, you may have thought about scattering a loved one’s ashes at sea. It can be a meaningful and symbolic farewell, but it’s not always straightforward — there are cultural, legal and ethical considerations to be aware of.

A recent RNZ article explores the complexities around scattering ashes in New Zealand: https://tinyurl.com/ysyhbz3z

Scattering ashes at sea can be a meaningful and symbolic farewell but it also brings cultural, legal, and ethical considerations to the forefront.

A recent RNZ article, The modern conundrum of scattering human ashes, includes insights from Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand CEO Gillian Boyes, Board Member Andrew Malcolm, and Board Cultural Advisor Larni Hepi, highlighting how memorial practices are evolving and the importance of cultural understanding.

At a funeral, we often discover the impact someone had beyond our own relationship with them. Colleagues, neighbours, and friends share stories that reveal kindness, mentorship, and love we may never have known. A funeral doesn’t just mark an ending — it celebrates the meaning of a life.

At funerals, something powerful happens:
You often learn who your person was beyond your relationship with them.
A colleague shares how they mentored them.
A neighbour describes their quiet kindness.
A friend tells a story you’ve never heard and suddenly you see them in a new light.

One son said after his father’s funeral:
“I didn’t realise how many other lives he’d touched.”

A funeral doesn’t just mark an ending…
It shows the meaning of a life.
If you’ve ever wondered whether a farewell is “worth it” — this is why it is.
