Its not just about giving advice. Its about supporting people to make habits that last through understanding my clients WHY. That's why individualized care is so effective. Our WHY is the personal pain that we no longer want to experience, is the people we love and want to be around for, and is the magnificent life dreams we want to live. From when I first learnt about nutrition, fasting, and herbal medicine and how it could affect my body I was obsessed with studying everything I could get my hands on about health and wellness.🍏 This time for me is still a priority as it is nourishing, inspiring and relaxing.

There are more benefits of learning something new! When we are learning something new our brain creates new connections between neurons, this is called neuroplasticity. The learning mind is curious, and we are not as afraid of making mistakes. When we learn something new we look out into the world with this curious gaze. 😇

This is why when people work with me I put a huge priority on education. My clients learn about the possibilities that are available to them through new habits and diet and lifestyle change. I want to activate that curious gaze as they enter their personal wellness journeys. This enables them to imagine a life without pain and disease and a curiosity to try that Whole Food recipe with extra greens 🥦, I prescribed 😉.

So, I'm curious what is something new you learned this week?🧠

Ever wondered how the bacteria in your gut affect your hormones? This is for all the humans that have a menstrual cycle.💜 The estrobolome is an amazing new term used to discuss the intricate connection between our ‘estrogen’ and the ‘microbiome’ .

This month I wrote an article for Flow State NZ an amazing mushroom company right in here in NZ. I'm a big fan of mushrooms to support our microbiome health!

Did you know that down there in your gut little species of bacteria are choosing whether you need more active estrogen or more inactive estrogen? We have known for a few years now how the gut plays a role in our mood and now we know it also plays a role in our hormonal balance. Click below to read more :)

Recently I have been working with people to lean out their livers! It is normal for the liver to contain some fat, but if fat accounts for more than 10% of the liver’s weight, then liver function may be impaired and serious complications may develop (aka Fatty Liver Disease). This is when you might wake up one morning and feel some abdominal pain or tenderness in the upper right area of your abdomen. It might even feel like back pain.
Many people are able to lose weight, reduce inflammation and return their liver to a healthy state through diet, herbs and lifestyle change. Check out the blog post below for more great ways you can lean out your liver!

In the last 2 years we have all experienced Crisis in the form of a pandemic. In New Zealand we have seen a significant increase in Depression and Anxiety during this time. With women 58% more likely to be affected by depression than men. Eek another example of how the pandemic has intensified gender inequalities.😬 Termed by psychologists as ‘crisis fatigue’, a combination of chronic stress, anxiety, poor behavioral habits and loneliness, this constant state of pandemic alertness has led to to a state of apathy and burnout for many people. How is this connected to inflammation? Take a read of this weeks blog to learn more about how inflammation affects our mood and the simple things we can do to decrease our neuroinflammation. 🧠
I hope you enjoy it. 😄

So excited to have my article published in .life magazine spring edition!

The article outlines the benefits of water 💦only fasting and my experience working at the renowned True North Health Center in California.

Everyday I use my knowledge in fasting to support and guide my client's. Their are many ways to incorporate fasting into our lives to reap the benefits. For example intermittent fasting, time restricted eating, long term fasting, weekend fast, 24hour fast etc. Fasting needs to be personalized to fit our individual health goals.

It's also so supportive to have someone to talk to about the many changes you feel in your body during fasting, and to guide you on what is safe and what may be a sign to stop the fast.

Check out .life for the full article and other amazing pieces including one from one of my teachers Dr Michael Klapher 😃

Are you getting enough vitamin D? As some of us remain in lockdown and others are transitioning out, I know many of us have spent a lot of time inside in the last months, due to lockdown and winter. We have been missing those important rays of sunshine that helps us make vitamin D. So how do you know if you are getting enough Vitamin D? In New Zealand with our long summers at our batches, the many days we spend outdoors, and lying on the beach, you wouldn't think we were susceptible to vitamin D deficiency. Commonly I hear from my clients, “I only need to expose myself for 10-20 minutes a day to get my vitamin D, right?” Unfortunately it's just not that simple, as studies estimate that almost half of the population in New Zealand have average vitamin D levels below 50 nmol/L classified as a mild deficiency, while 3-4% of people have levels lower than 17.5 nmol/L, classified as a severe deficiency. However, there are many ways in which you can prevent becoming deficient.

Click below to read the article so that you can prevent deficiency and make sure your vitamin D levels are optimal for yourself and your family's health.

When it comes to the gut we can be experiencing symptoms from a event that happened many years ago! I often meet clients who when we go through their health history say " It all started after I came back from 'insert name of country' or " I haven't felt well since I went overseas 3 years ago". When asked they usually state they had a illness or travelers diarrhea at one point in their trip. They often are experiencing a range of symptoms from bloating and food sensitivities to stomach pains and fatigue. If this sounds like you or someone you know I recommend having a read of the article below to see how you may be able to get your gut health back on track.
