No one would argue that 2021 has been another difficult year.

We’ve seen further lockdowns, travel open then close, families remaining separated and covid cases continuing to rise.

It’s easy to lose sight of what’s important in all the turmoil and something that’s important is living a healthy lifestyle.

As a USANA distributor, I’m all about helping people live healthy lives so I want to share 3 tips that are easy to do but will make a big difference to how you feel and how you cope.

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗨𝗽
Here’s just a few benefits of drinking water:
💦 Helps increase energy and relieves fatigue
💦 Helps flush out toxins
💦 Improves your skin
💦 Aids circulation and digestion
💦 Transports nutrients
💦 Helps maintain body temperature and absorption

Make it a habit to keep water on hand – at your desk, in your car and anywhere you need a visual reminder to drink up.

𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽
Meal prep will help you stay on track with your healthy eating when you’re busy, because you’ll already be prepared with homemade meals.

Set aside one day a week for prepping and decide how many meals to prepare. Select a few healthy recipes and have all your necessary ingredients on hand. Cook up enough food and chop enough fruits/veggies to last a week and store well. You’ll probably discover that you cut down on time spent in the kitchen.

𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆
Exercising is important to a healthy lifestyle and there are many interesting options to choose from. If you’re not a fan of running or lifting weights at the gym, pick something you really like.

💃 Dancing – try Bollywood dancing, ballet, ballroom, twerking, Zumba or just dancing to your favourite music.

👨‍🦯 Hiking – Go for long daily walks. Most cities have a parks, harbour walkways or green belt walking tracks.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga – There are many different kinds of yoga classes you could try including hot yoga and laughing yoga.

🧗‍♀️ The Sky’s the Limit – Get really creative. Try rock climbing, hula-hooping, jump roping, unicycling or water aerobics.

🤸‍♀️ DIY Workout – Invent your own mini workout. Take the stairs instead of the lift. Do calf raises when unloading the dishwasher. Get down and plank while waiting for your tea kettle to boil. These little extra steps add up.

When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, there isn’t a magical cure-all. But by taking little steps such as these every day, you can improve your overall health, and by doing so, improve the quality of your life.

𝗜𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸?

When you don’t get enough sleep, your senses are affected. For instance, you miss visual cues and react more slowly.

In a sleep-deprived state, you might react to sounds more slowly, too.

The mental fog that accompanies sleeplessness may begin to encroach on day-to-day tasks.

To keep your senses sharp, be sure to get enough sleep. This, of course, is easier said than done.

Here’s how you can sleep better using your senses:

💠 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: Dim the lights in the hour leading up to your bedtime. And yes, that includes your TV and phone screen.

💠 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: Obviously, a quiet environment is the most conducive for sleep. Consider soundproofing your room or turning the AC off at night.

💠 𝗦𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹: Many people find that certain smells, such as the scent of lavender, help relax them. There is some evidence that suggests these scents cannot only help you fall asleep, but also stay asleep. If you use a diffuser, consider leaving it on all night.

💠 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵: For many people, especially those who regularly toss and turn with anxiety, blankets provide a big benefit. The physical sensation of weight can have a calming effect, helping you both fall and stay asleep.

💠 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲: Chamomile tea has been used to help support healthy sleep for years – and with good reason. Chamomile contains the flavonoid apogen, which can have mild sedative effects that help you feel relaxed and fall asleep.

None of these suggestions are a fix-all solution. Some may work for you, others may not.

Simply try being more mindful of your senses and the way they affect your sleep as you try out a few of these practices.
