😫 “Can’t Trust Your Knee?”

Every time you get that itch to jump back into a pickup game, does your knee give way? Leaving you sidelined, missing out on the sport you love? You’re not alone. Great weekend spent with the barbell medicine team.

Lots of good lessons a lots of re-enforcement of some skills that always need refining. And plenty of nuance with a spot of lifting in there too.

Cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the information that this group put out and it was great to finally meet them in person.

How soon would you expect to be able to join an orchestra after starting to play an instrument?

I’m going to assume that you’re probably thinking years right?

Now apply the same thinking to your lifting

Why do you expect to be as advanced as someone who’s been diong it for years?

Playing an instrument is an incredibly skilled pursuit

And so is weightlifting

To throw weights over your head accurately, consistently and safely takes an incredible amount of practice

It takes years of slowly refining your craft to try and reach your true potential

Just like an instrument, some might get it faster than others

But don’t compare yourself to others

Run your own race and try to get better than you were last session

Is FREE really what you want?

Are you after a good price?

Or are you after good value? Because there is a difference

How much do you really value something that is free?

Physio’s advertising as “free physio” annoys the hell out of me!

Because it sends a message of low value

And it relies on quantity rather than quality

Are you really going to receive the best care when you are one of 20 people or more seen during a day?

Similarly in coaching, free programs can work but is that free program really going to be the most appropriate thing for YOU

It is my mission to provide value to YOU as the consumer

I would much rather work with fewer people and provide quality care/guidance than have to rely on the quantity

So yea I have some free resources

And yea I have paid services

And I am working to make sure my paid services produce the REAL outcomes that YOU value

Because do you really want something that is a good price?

Or do you want something that gets you the outcome you want?

You turn up to your physio appointment feeling good

Your back is feeling better gradually and you even felt good enough to deadlift 100kg last week

But you’re a bit worried to tell them because you’re worried that they might be mad that you went heavier than planned

I don’t want you to ever feel guilty to be honest with me

So I try my best not to say “I told you so” if they do something off plan and flare things up

And even more so if they feel good after it - This is a GOOD thing

Instead, I will do my best to further educate about the WHY behind the plan and then adjust it up to what they have just shown they can actually tolerate

I want to not only restore your physical abilities but also the confidence to approach things without having to think about “what if”

And “what if my physio tells me off” is probably just an extra worry that we don’t need

Sometimes we do need the stick but more often we will get further with a carrot instead

You start watching all sorts of lifting on Instagram and youtube

You want to improve your own lifting and you start to dream about what is possible

What do you do about these visions?

Do you take action and do everything possible to make them a reality?
