Breathing through COVID19
Breathing connects all parts of our movement matrix but it remains most neglected part of our lives.
How do you breath? Shallow? Quick? Deep? Slow?
Two most common breathing patterns to consider
1)Belly Breathing /diaphragmatic breather (Optimal for oxygen saturation)
2) Chest Breathing / Apical breather (Sub-optimal for O2 saturation)

Which Type of Breather Are You?
The simplest way to find this out is by laying on your back. Place your right hand over your belly, just below the navel and your left hand on your chest just below your collar bones and just breath normally for a little bit.
Which hand do you feel rising and falling more? If it’s your belly hand then you are a diaphragmatic breather, if it’s your chest hand you’re an apical breather. Or at least you are in this position. Honestly, you will likely breathe differently depending upon the position you are in and what activity you are doing. As a result, it’s a good idea to pay attention and test out what type of breather you are in a wide variety of positions.
Luckily, if you find yourself breathing more apically you can train your diaphragm to get working again with belly breathing.

How to Diaphragmatic Breathing AKA Belly Breath

**While lying down on your back, place one hand on your collar bone and one hand on your abdomen near your navel.

Slowly take a deep breath in and focus on trying to get your hand on your stomach rise while the hand on your breast bone remains still.

As you breathe in, the hand on your stomach should rise. When you breath out, the hand on your stomach should lower. **

**In Standing, place one hand on your collar bone and one hand on your abdomen near your navel.

Slowly take a deep breath in and focus on trying to get the hand on your stomach to rise while the hand on your breast bone remains still.

As you take a deep breath in, the hand on your stomach should rise. When you breathe out, the hand on your stomach should lower**

Announcement:
Midday Wednesday 12th August 2020 Revive Physio along with the rest of Auckland will stay closed as we move into Covid-19 Alert Level 3.

Telehealth consultations are available and we hope to continue back at the clinic from Monday.
Please endeavor to download the *NZ COVID tracer app* your phone and do your part. Stay safe NZ đź’ś

1. How NZ COVID Tracer works
The first step is to register your email address with NZ COVID Tracer and create a password.

You can then use the app to:

register your name, address and other details (all information is optional)
invite friends and whanau to download the app
register your interest in features that will be added in future updates
create a digital diary by scanning QR codes at the locations you visit.
If you are identified (through existing contact tracing procedures) as a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, the National Close Contact Service (NCCS) will ask you to open NZ COVID Tracer and read out a list of the locations you have signed into. This will help them identify whether any of your friends, whanau or community members may also have been exposed to COVID-19.

Any business or public facing organisation with a New Zealand Business Number can generate a QR code poster for each of their premises through MBIE’s Business Connect online service.

All a business needs to register for Business Connect is:

a RealMe login
a New Zealand Business Number and access to its NZBN profile
to confirm it has authority over its business

Reminder of Alert Level 3 Rules:

Under Alert Level 3, you are encouraged work from home if you can. If you are currently in Auckland and do not live in Auckland, we suggest that you go home and self isolate for two weeks. We recommend that you keep your bubble small.

Businesses are able to open, but should not physically interact with customers. Essential services - healthcare, Justice services and businesses providing necessities are able to open. Bars and restaurants should close (takeaways allowed).

Schools in Auckland should close, except for children of essential workers. We encourage students to learn from home if possible.

Maintain physical distancing of 2 metres outside your home, including on public transport and it is highly recommended that you wear a mask if you are out and about.

Public transport can continue to operate with strict health and safety requirements (physical distancing and wearing a mask).

Public venues should close. This includes libraries, museums, cinemas, food courts, gyms, pools, playgrounds and markets.

Gatherings of up to 10 people can continue, but only for wedding services, funerals and tangihanga. Physical distancing and public health measures should be maintained.

Inter-regional travel is highly limited to, for example, essential workers, with limited exemptions for others.

People at high risk of severe illness such as older people and those with existing medical conditions are encouraged to stay at home where possible, and take additional precautions when leaving home.

As we approach the announcement of Alert Level 1 people will gradually be returning to their places of work. With that in mind here are a few pointers for maintaining hygiene in the work place:
o Have your work desk clear of items as much as possible to aid cleaning and disinfecting.
o Disinfect your workstation before starting work with disinfectant or disinfectant wipes, including all frequently touched items like your work phone, key board, mouse, desk, cabinet handles etc.
o Keep in mind all frequently touched areas (lift buttons, light switches, door handles, printer/stationery). Use your elbow/ ID card for it.
o Avoid handling paper / stationery as paper provides opportunity for transmission
o Remove all your personal items and cups/glasses when leaving the desk for the day.
Keep in mind that each work place may have their own procedures/policies to clean and disinfect so take that into account :-)
