In the wake of Cyclone Vaianu, we’ve been reflecting on what a crazy world we live in these days. Unusual weather events, everyday living costs still going up, wars on the other side of the world having a direct impact on us with petrol prices going through the roof — the list goes on.
We recently spoke with one of our newer residents about what life has been like since she moved in — and what she said really stuck with us.
She told us what a relief it is to not really have to worry about any of this anymore.
- Leading up to the cyclone, she was so pleased she didn’t have to worry about getting her house prepared — as Janine, our Village Manager, was taking care of everything that needed to be done. She was comforted by the fact that if it got really bad, she was in a safe environment with other people around her. Her family were equally reassured that Mum was in the best place — and happy they didn’t have to come and clean the gutters!
- With Fixed Weekly Fees for Life, the main inflation she has to deal with is the cost of food and power. And she’s finding her power bill is already much lower than before — her apartment is so warm she rarely needs to use the heat pump.
- She’s also using her car far less. Living in the heart of Orewa means she can walk pretty much anywhere — the beach, cafes to meet friends, her doctor just down the road, the bowling club, or the supermarket (complete with her shopping bag on wheels!). Not only is it much cheaper, but her fitness has improved a lot as well.
It’s a good reminder of all the things we take for granted with retirement village living here at The Grove Orewa — but that many people may never have thought of.
If any of this resonates with you, we’d love to chat through the benefits of this lifestyle — and what makes this boutique village special.
We’re holding Open Days this Friday and Saturday (17th and 18th), 10am–3pm — come take a look at our staged one, two and three-bedroom apartments. There are options to suit all budgets from $695,000 right up to $1.4 million.
Can’t make it? You’re also welcome any Walk-in Wednesday, where you can meet some of our residents and hear first-hand what life is like living here.
