What beaut chats we had, as we unveiled the new Chatterbox Seat in Orewa - such a great spot to pause, connect and spark a conversation.

Sitting here, I felt a sense of 'calm togetherness' which is pretty special in our fast paced world. I could hear the waves behind me, chatter and laughter around me (it felt like a hug!)

So Orewa, you're all invited now to pause, take a seat and have a chat .... it all starts with a "Hi"

44% of Kiwi have felt lonely in the last month - it's time to tackle this, one chat at a time. ❤️

We're excited to announce our latest Chatterbox Seat, in Orewa's beautiful Moenui Reserve, just in time for Mental Health Awareness Week!

The MHAW2025 theme is "Top Up Together," and this seat is a dedicated space to do just that. It’s an invitation to connect, share & really listen because we believe small talk can lead to big conversations.

A huge thanks to our incredible community partners in Orewa who made this a reality: Destination Orewa Beach, More FM Rodney 88.9, Rotary Club of Orewa-Millwater, ASB Bank, the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board and Auckland Council

theme is so close to my ❤. "Community is ... what we create together". Thanks to my stellar community of supporters, we're underway with becoming a charitable trust meaning by Xmas, we'll be able to take donations, and have more Chatterbox seats installed, where you want them! In the meantime, today, pick up the phone, shoulder tap someone, ask them how they are and really listen...small talk can lead to big chat.

Over 1.2m kiwi living in NZ say they feel lonely. Connection is more important than ever before....and it simply starts with us all just stopping, taking a seat, looking someone in the eye and asking how they are.

Over 1.2m kiwi living in NZ say they feel lonely. Connection is more important than ever before....and it simply starts with us all just stopping, taking a seat, looking someone in the eye and asking how they are.

So a huge thanks to Kāpiti Coast District Council and Coastlands Shoppingtown for bringing a Chatterbox seat to the community in support of chatter that matters.

With help from our friends at Coastlands Shoppingtown, we've installed our district's very first Chatterbox seat. You'll find it chillin' in the new plaza on the Coastlands side of the road.

These seats are all about normalising a culture of chat, connection and support to build community, and help strengthen our mental health and wellbeing. If you're up for a yarn, feel free to park yourself on the Chatterbox seat, and if you're strolling by, why not join in for a kōrero?

The seat’s design includes a spacious bench area which was inspired by the idea of relaxing on a picnic blanket, and there are phone numbers to call to talk to a trained counsellor for support.

If you see someone sitting on the seat, you could make a real difference in someone’s day by taking a seat and saying a simple "hello". 💙

A new seat installed by the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board in Takapuna’s Waiwharariki Anzac Square is helping people to talk about their mental health.
