Kia ora,
March is Kidney Awareness Month, and it’s a good time to think about how to look after your kidney health.
Kidney disease is quite common and often develops silently in its early stages, meaning many people do not realise they have it until it becomes more serious. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are major risk factors. The good news is that when kidney disease is found early, there is often a lot that can be done to slow its progression and protect your health.
Your health team at The Village Family Medical plays an important role in checking and monitoring kidney health. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or other risk factors, regular health checks can help detect any problems early.
We encourage you to take a moment to learn more about your kidneys and how to keep them healthy. You can find helpful information at:

Kidney Health New Zealand supports patients and whānau across Aotearoa by providing education, community kidney testing initiatives, and a free 0800 helpline (0800 543 639) staffed by renal nurses for advice and support.
If you have questions about your kidney health, please feel free to talk with your GP/NP or practice nurse at your next visit.
Ngā mihi
