International Day of Radiology🌟

We celebrate ahead of tomorrow, on November 8th, and thank our incredible imaging specialists, radiologists, radiographers, sonographers and medical receptionists who bring clarity, care, and compassion every day to our patients.

Behind every diagnosis is a team of skilled professionals who help us see what can’t be seen — guiding patients and clinicians with precision, empathy, and dedication.

Your quiet excellence often happens behind the scenes, but your impact shines brightly through every life you touch.

From all of us — thank you for helping us see better, understand more deeply, and care more completely.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

Every breath matters. Yet for many New Zealanders, lung cancer remains one of the most silent and serious health threats.

At Astra Radiology, we’re committed to helping you value every breath through early detection and advanced imaging technology, because having enough air to last a lifetime begins with knowing what’s happening inside your lungs.

Let’s continue to raise awareness about lung health, encourage those at risk to talk to their GP about screening, and recognise the important contribution of diagnostic imaging in improving outcomes and saving lives.

Today is World Osteoporosis Day 2025🦴

Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because bone loss happens without symptoms—until a fracture occurs. But the good news is, prevention and early action make a big difference! 💪

Prevention is key: Healthy lifestyle choices like regular weight-bearing exercise, a balanced diet rich in calcium & vitamin D, and avoiding smoking and excess alcohol can significantly reduce your risk.

Imaging saves lives: Advanced imaging techniques, such as bone density scans (DEXA), play a crucial role in diagnosing osteoporosis early—before fractures happen. Early detection means treatment can start sooner, helping protect your bones for the future.

Let’s raise awareness together and protect our bones for a stronger tomorrow💙

This month is Breathe Better September🫁

Respiratory conditions like asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bronchiectasis affect 1 million New Zealanders. That’s 1 in 5 of us.

This is where diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role 💡 From chest X-rays to CT scans, imaging gives doctors a clear view of lung health — helping to:
- Detect hidden problems early
- Track disease progression
- Monitor treatment effectiveness
- Guide life-saving decisions with confidence

This September, let’s raise awareness, kōrero about lung health, and recognise the importance of both prevention and medical innovation in helping New Zealanders breathe easier.

Stronger lungs mean a stronger Aotearoa.

R U OK? Day – Aotearoa New Zealand 💛

A simple question can make a world of difference. 💬

Today we’re reminded to check in with the people around us – friends, whānau, colleagues, teammates – and ask: “R U OK?”

It’s not about having all the answers. It’s about:
✅ Taking time to listen
✅ Letting people know they’re not alone
✅ Encouraging support when it’s needed

Mental health challenges affect many of us here in New Zealand. Starting a kōrero can open the door to hope, healing, and connection.

So today, and every day, let’s look out for each other. One conversation could change – or even save – a life🧡

Who will you check in with today?

September is Cervical Screening Awareness Month🧡

Regular screening is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. The new HPV test is quick, easy, and can now be done with a simple self-test.

If you're aged 25–69, and it’s been 5 years (or more) since your last smear, you're due for a free test.

The new HPV test means there will be three options available for having a cervical screening test:

👉You can choose to collect your own sample, via a simple self-test swab, or
👉You can ask your healthcare provider to collect your swab sample, or
👉You can choose to have your healthcare provider take a sample from your cervix (known as a smear test)

Make time this month to get up to date with your screening!
