Fisher & Paykel Healthcare

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare We are a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of products for use in respiratory care, acute care, and the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Fisher & Paykel commenced business in 1934 as an importer of refrigerators and washing machines. In 1938 F&P started manufacturing white-ware under license to several major international appliance companies and in the mid-1960s moved to manufacturing products using in-house technology. The involvement in healthcare started in the late 1960s when F&P sought involvement in a business that could benefit from their growing manufacturing and electronic expertise. A prototype respiratory humidifier, developed in New Zealand for use with patients needing ventilation in hospital intensive care situations, was taken to production by F&P. Since then we have consistently developed innovations to improve patient care and developed world-wide distribution for these products. On 14 November 2001, as part of a reorganisation, Fisher & Paykel Industries Limited was renamed Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited and a new company, Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings Limited, was established to own F&P’s appliances and finance business. In connection with the reorganisation, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited listed on the Australian and New Zealand Stock Exchanges and NASDAQ. In February 2003 the NASDAQ listing was terminated.

Proper mask sizing is crucial for effective neonatal resuscitation. International guidelines recommend that infant face masks should cover the mouth and nose without extending over the chin or covering the eyes.

Research by O'Shea et al. found that 35 mm masks are best for infants under 29 weeks’ gestation, while 42 mm masks suit those aged between 27 and 33 weeks. Explore our full range of neonatal resuscitation masks.

A huge thank you to our suppliers for their continued support and collaboration.
This year’s Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Supplier Event brought together nearly 50 of our valued local and international suppliers at our East Tāmaki campus.

It was fantastic to welcome them onsite, where they had the opportunity to connect face-to-face with our teams—reinforcing the theme of the event: Collaboration.

Our suppliers gained insights into F&P’s strategic direction from senior leaders, and we proudly acknowledged their contributions in helping us achieve these goals. The Supplier Expo was once again a highlight, showcasing a wide range of products and capabilities to the wider business.

We remain committed to building strong, long-term partnerships with our suppliers—because together, we create better outcomes for patients around the world.

We are excited to continue our educational journey with The Incubator Podcast on the “CPAP with Purpose” series – a podcast dedicated to supporting babies in the delivery room and NICU through thoughtful respiratory care.

Episode three, “Tech Tuesday,” dives into an often-misunderstood topic – condensate in humidified respiratory support.

F&P Healthcare general manager and engineer, Laurence Gulliver, shares: ‘Condensate isn’t a sign of excess humidity — it’s actually lost humidity. When condensate forms, it’s not just a management burden; it means the patient isn’t receiving optimal humidity.’

This episode explores how understanding and managing condensate can improve outcomes and reduce stress for caregivers. https://bit.ly/3JjLToW

Using the F&P 950™ system*, trial nasal high flow therapy with the F&P Optiflow™ Junior 2 transition kits. Transition your patient on invasive ventilation or CPAP therapy to nasal high flow by removing the expiratory limb and attaching the ventilator transition kit or blender transition kit to the inspiratory limb and set your desired flow rate.

T-piece resuscitators deliver consistent and controlled peak end expiratory pressure (PEEP), the residual pressure maintained at the end of expiration. Research suggests that adequate levels of PEEP may help to establish and maintain functional residual capacity (FRC) during transition at birth.

This illustration shows the waveforms generated during positive pressure ventilation with a T-piece resuscitator (purple waveform) and a self-inflating bag without a PEEP valve (blue waveform). The provision of adequate and consistent PEEP, as can be achieved with a T-piece resuscitator, prevents the collapse of alveoli at the end of expiration thereby helping to establish and maintain FRC.

We are excited to share our new podcast partnership with The Incubator Podcast – “CPAP with Purpose: Supporting babies in the delivery room and NICU series”.

In episode two, “Early bubble CPAP in action”, the guest speaker shares how his team implemented a bubble CPAP protocol in the delivery room, resulting in reduced intubation rates and improved outcomes for extremely preterm infants.

The key? Early CPAP – not just in theory, but in action.

Learn how a decade of experience and a commitment to gentle ventilation is reshaping neonatal care. https://bit.ly/3JjLToW

Our podcast series with The Incubator Podcast, “CPAP with Purpose”, starts with Episode one: “Extended CPAP: Sustained lung growth, lasting outcomes.”

The guest speaker explores how mechanical stretch from prolonged CPAP might stimulate lung and vascular development. Using stability criteria to guide eligibility, her team measured pulmonary function in neonates and saw something remarkable:

‘The patients who got the extra CPAP for two weeks have increased alveolar volume… they have increased lung diffusion capacity… and they also have improved force expiratory flows.’

Listen in to why some of the simplest of breakthroughs can be worth celebrating. https://bit.ly/3JjLToW

A T-piece resuscitator can be used during neonatal resuscitation to provide consistent and controlled delivery of PEEP. Resuscitation guidelines recommend delivering PEEP whenever positive pressure ventilation is required in the delivery room. Research shows providing PEEP when initiating ventilation may help to establish and maintain functional and residual capacity, reduce delivery room intubation rates and the incidence of lung injury as well as improve the response to surfactant.

We know that when knowledge is shared, outcomes for neonates can only benefit. That is why we have teamed with global educational podcast platform The Incubator to foster meaningful conversations with clinical experts that drive positive change.

Our latest series, “CPAP with Purpose: Supporting babies in the delivery room and NICU”, comprises three insightful episodes exploring:

• The benefits of extended CPAP use
• One expert’s transformative journey with bubble CPAP in the delivery room
• A tech-focused discussion that clears up common myths about condensate
