Athlete Progress - 2025

Ray took on just about every strongman competition available in New Zealand in 2025 ... and from what I’ve heard, the goal is to hit all of them in 2026.

He wrapped up the year with an impressive run of results:

1st - Te Puke
1st - Tauranga
3rd - Franklins
1st - West Auckland
3rd - Waikatos
1st - Easter Show
4th - Pacific’s (International)
3rd - Upper North Island Log & Deadlift
5th - NZSM(despite missing one event due to injury)
2nd - South Auckland’s
2nd - LDS Christchurch

Along the way, he also clocked some big PBs, including a 370kg deadlift and a 155kg log.

Plenty to be excited about heading into 2026 💪

Athlete Progress - 2025

Young Toko Lini! well, well, well… where do I begin?

First things first, he turned 21 in 2025 and is still so young in this game. Always pushing, always keen to compete, and never one to shy away from a challenge.

As for PBs… all of them. He’s still a novice and new to the strength scene, so every lift this year has been a personal best. Standouts include a 100kg push press for 2 reps, 160kg bench press, a 345 kg axle wagon wheel deadlift, and a 317.5 kg deadlift.

Competition highlights include 2nd at Counties, 4th at Log & Deads, and finishing the year in 1st place at Juniors, Natural NZSM.

Undoubtedly one of the strongest juniors in the country. 2026 is gon be good! World Champs, here we come 🔥

The Powerpuffed Girls of Taupō 💪
These wāhine have been putting in the mahi over the past few years, getting stronger brick by brick.

Tammy’s perseverance has seen her execute all three SBD lifts with a 25-30kg loaded barbell, unaided, despite the barriers often placed on people by societal perceptions of stroke and CP.

Kerry and Maxine continue to prove that strength doesn’t have an age limit. Through consistent training, they’ve hit PBs across all their lifts, including 37.5kg and 47.5kg bench presses, and 90kg and 100kg deadlifts.

They’ve now signed up for the NZPU Bench Press competition in April, so let’s get behind them and show our support 👊

Athlete Progress - 2025

Taki made his competition debut in 2025 and backed it up with some solid lifestyle changes, including early mornings and training before work, putting real focus into squats, deadlifts, and more than just bench press.

When he’s training with the boys, the competitive edge comes out and he’s able to really push and let it rip. From a wild 10-rep set on the log to 220kg deadlift overhand, it’s clear there’s a lot of untapped potential there.

Lock in for 2026, Taki, and you’ll go a long way 💪

Athlete Progress - 2025

The young guns 🔫💪
I was fortunate enough to meet these boys through Lorenzo and the work he does in the community. Lorenzo had already been supporting the younger brothers with their health and fitness goals. Together with Tāmaki, we backed these boys, with me handling the programming and supporting Lorenzo with coaching - through their first competition and beyond.

All three boys performed exceptionally well. Maino placed 3rd, Alo placed 2nd, and Diego took 1st, with both Alo and Diego breaking NZ records at the competition. Since then, they’ve continued to train hard and stay committed to their lifting.

Diego set the Deadlift record witj 225kg and also hit PBs of a 150kg bench press, 180kg squat, and 100 kg log.
Alo broke the log record with 100kg and pressed 140kg on the bench.

I’m excited to see them keep pushing into 2026, and I’ll be there to support them every step of the way.

Lock in for 2026! Big things ahead! 💪

Athlete Progress - 2025

Kahn came to me after a few years in powerlifting, keen to make the transition into strongman. I didn’t hesitate, we got him down to the front yard for a session, and straight away I could see the fire in his eyes.
A 120kg per hand farmers walk was attacked like a raging pit bull, picked up and taken at full speed, no holding back. He went after a 300kg yoke the same way.

From there, we put a plan in place to build his overhead strength and dial in a few other strongman staples through the end of 2025, with a competition debut planned for 2026.
He’s picked up the technical side well, as you’ll see in his 90kg axle and 115kg log work here. There’s still room to refine things, but the raw power is undeniable. It probably helps that he’s bringing some serious pressing strength over from the bench press.

He’s also thrown down a new challenge, pull-ups! We’re already past one clean rep, and now the target is a set of 10.

Let’s push 💪

Athlete Progress - 2025

Danz hit me up halfway through 2025, new to strongman and keen to join the team. After just one session together, it was clear he had a lot of untapped raw potential.

With a bit of technical refinement, hard lifts quickly became easy, turning grinders into fast, confident reps.

He got a jump start with a podium finish at his first competition and has since made rapid progress, pushing past 110kg on the log and 280kg on the deadlift.

Looking ahead to 2026, he’s got his sights set on Samoa. Let’s get him there 🔥

Athlete Progress - 2025

Wiremu started working with me last year, and while we’re yet to test his true maxes, the progress so far has been massive.

Early on, his main challenge was a long history of hip injuries that had limited him for several years. Any lower-body session, whether squat or hinge based, would trigger deep hip pain that often lasted for days, largely due to the complexity of his injury history.

Within just a few sessions, we were able to refine his movement patterns and improve his mechanics, significantly reducing, and almost completely eliminating, his hip pain. This has allowed Wiremu to train consistently, build strength, and properly express his raw power.

Check out some of these lifts from 2025 ... and remember, we still haven’t tested his maxes yet!

A big goal for 2026 is to step onto the competition platform. Let’s get behind him 👊

Technique first, ATTACK later! 🔥

During the warm up:
- Go over your cues
- Focus on technique
- Build consistency

As sets get heavier:
- Shift away from “perfect technique”
- Focus more on intensity and attacking the bar!
- Trust the technique you’ve already built

The Science
- Instructional self-talk (technical cues) works best for skill ex*****on at lighter loads
- Motivational self-talk (attack, explode) improves strength and endurance under heavy load

Focusing too much on technique at max effort can actually cause performance breakdowns! 💀 “paralysis by analysis”

👉 Focus on technique during warm-ups
🔥 Attack the bar during top sets
