🧴✨ CLEANING WINDOWS = THERAPY? 🧼🫧

Absolutely!

Give a child a spray bottle and suddenly you’ve got a speech + OT goldmine 💥

💬 Speech & targets:
➡️ Action words: spray, wipe, drip, clean
➡️ Core words: more, stop, help, finished
➡️ Following instructions: top to bottom, big circles, one more
➡️ Turn-taking & joint attention
➡️ Natural opportunities for commenting and requesting

🖐️ skills
➡️ Hand strength + bilateral coordination
➡️ Wrist stability and shoulder engagement
➡️ -motor integration
➡️ Crossing midline
➡️ Regulation through heavy work (hello calm bodies 😌)

🧠 The best bit?
It’s meaningful, motivating, and feels like real life — not “work”.

Sometimes the most powerful tools aren’t fancy resources… they’re spray bottles and a bit of water 💦

🎯 BALL ON THE LINE CHALLENGE 🔵

In session our work on pushing, rolling and bouncing a ball/bean bag/toy along our taped lines on our chalkboard wall ✨ It’s harder than it looks!

By asking children to keep the ball on the line as they move it across, we’re targeting:

✨ –eyecoordination

✨ Shoulder and wrist stability
✨ Graded force control (not too hard, not too soft!)

You can change the challenge level by:

🔹 Using different sized balls
🔹 Rolling vs bouncing
🔹 Making the line straight, curved or zig-zag
🔹 Timing it for an extra focus boost
🔹 Adding a “stop and hold” at certain points

It’s a fantastic way to build foundational skills needed for handwriting, ball skills, and everyday functional tasks all while feeling like play.

Simple set-up. Big skill-building. 🙌

⭐️ SLT MILESTONES WE’RE KEEPING AN EXTRA EYE ON IN 2026 ⭐️

📋 Not as a checklist.
🐎 Not as a race.
✨But as gentle guideposts.

As therapists (& parents), we’re not looking for perfection. We’re watching for patterns, progress & connection.

Here are a few things we keep an eye on:

💭 Understanding before talking
Does your child respond to their name, follow simple instructions, and show they understand what’s being said?

☝🏻Intent to communicate
Pointing, showing, reaching, eye contact, gestures. Communication starts long before words.

👯 , not just vocabulary
Shared attention, turn-taking, copying sounds or actions matter more than how many words are spoken.

🧸 Play skills
Play tells us so much about language, and social development.

😖 Frustration levels
Big feelings can sometimes be a sign that communication is hard, not that behaviour is “bad”.

aren’t deadlines.
And development isn’t linear.

Some children move in bursts.
Some take the scenic route.

If you’re unsure whether to wait or seek support, that question alone is worth a conversation 🤍
