💜 HAPPY 8TH BIRTHDAY TO US 🥳

Eight years of The Speech Room 🎈👌🏻🍾🎉

Another year on, and I just wanted to say thank you again.

Thank you to the families who continue to trust us and let us be part of your journeys. Thank you to the incredible kids who show us every day what progress, resilience, and determination really look like. And thank you to our amazing team, who bring so much care, skill, and heart into everything they do.

Your support, encouragement, and belief in what we do truly means the world. It never goes unnoticed.

We’re so grateful to still be here, doing the work we love, alongside such a special community.

Thank you for being part of The Speech Room then, now, and into the future ✨

“Love Needs No Words” was one of those soft but unexpectedly raw reads that quietly stays with you long after you’ve finished the last page.

I finished this audio book last week and even though Ava isn’t autistic, so much of her experience felt incredibly relatable. The misunderstandings, the emotional overwhelm, the way connection doesn’t always look the way people expect it to. It really captured that sense of wanting to be seen and understood without always having the words to explain it.

Chapter 18, though… that one hit differently. It was such an eye-opening moment. Honest, confronting, and beautifully written. Definitely brought a couple of tears and made me pause and reflect in a way not many books do.

A gentle but powerful reminder that love, in all its forms, doesn’t always need words to be felt or understood 🤍

🐣🩵 EASTER WITH BLUEY 🐥💙

Bluey seems to be a huge hit in clinic (and at home 😂). We’ve been loving using the Where’s Bluey? Easter book in clinic lately 🐰💙 It’s such a fun & engaging way to target a range of core language skills without it feeling like “work” for our kiddos. While they’re busy hunting for Bluey and friends, we’re able to naturally support:

✨ WH questions – Who can you see? What are they doing? Where is Bluey hiding?
✨ Prepositions – under, behind, next to, in front of… all in meaningful, visual contexts
✨ Visual discrimination & attention to detail – spotting differences, scanning busy scenes, and building persistence
✨ Descriptive language – talking about what’s happening in each scene

It’s one of those resources that’s simple, but incredibly versatile and perfect for this time of year 🐣

Plus, when therapy feels like a game, engagement goes through the roof 🙌

🚶‍♂️🙌 WALK ‘n LITERACY 🙌🚶‍♂️

Table top work is not for everyone. To be honest, it’s not for most of our . 👏

So after we burnt off some energy spinning cogs on the swing and jumping from A-Z, we took the long way around and found all the letters we could in the complex! ✨🔥

When we found a letter, we talked about some words that start with that letter - and more importantly, why ‘Cat’ starts with ‘C’ but ‘Kite’ starts with ‘K’. 🐈🪁

By the end of the walk, the letters in car registrations were being and a few #67 🙃🙌

⭐️ WHAT I’M ACTUALLY THINKING WHEN A CHILD WON’T SIT STILL ⭐️

🚫 “They’re not listening.”
🚫 “This isn’t working.”
& definitely 🚫: “They should know better.”

What I’m actually thinking is:

🕺🏻 How can we build movement into this?
🙌🏻🦵🏻🦻🏼👀 What are they communicating with their body right now?
🥰 What will help them feel safe and regulated?
🫶🏻 How do we meet them where they are not where we wish they were?

Because sitting still isn’t a prerequisite for learning. Regulation comes before attention & movement is often part of .

Some children think best while , climbing, spinning, or pacing. That’s not a problem, it’s information.

In , we don’t aim for still bodies. We aim for engaged ones 🤍
