Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that all the systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is a well established holistic therapy which treats the mind and body as a whole to achieve a state of general well-being. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing and harmonising the body. I have completed two diplomas each in Reflexology and 'Anatomy and Physiology' and am a member of Reflexology New Zealand. All RNZ practitioners have satisfied important criteria in relation to professional knowledge, training and continued education, and are bound by the code of ethics and code of practice set down by Reflexology New Zealand. Your treatment will be undertaken within the premises of my school The Auckland School of Reflexology in the convenient suburb of Albany, Auckland, New Zealand.

I was thinking this Sunday afternoon that it might be a good idea to create a post aimed at the person who may think that reflexology is not for them.

Here goes …

Reflexology might sound like a luxury, or something that you don’t need, but it’s actually one of the easiest ways to give your body an all over wellbeing boost. If you’ve never tried it before, here are six great reasons to book yourself in for a session.

1. It helps you properly relax.😌
Life is busy, and most of us don’t take enough time to switch off. Reflexology treatments are deeply calming, helping your body move out of “stress mode”, and into a state of deep relaxation.

2. It may improve your sleep.😴
If you struggle to fall asleep or wake up during the night, reflexology may help. By encouraging relaxation and reducing stress, it can make drifting off much easier, or staying asleep more achievable.

3. It may support your overall wellbeing.🥰
As reflexology works by applying pressure to specific points (reflexes) on the feet that correspond with different parts of the body, this can help encourage balance throughout all your systems.

4. It gives your mind a break.🤯
When was the last time you had a full hour without checking your phone, or trying to tick things off your ‘to do’ list? A reflexology session gives you time to switch off, reset, and recharge.

5. It is good for your feet.👣
Reflexology can do wonders for the wellbeing of your feet. The gentle pressure and massage help improve circulation. It can also encourage flexibility, and relieve built-up stress and tension in the muscles of your feet, leaving them feeling lighter, more comfortable, and relaxed after just one treatment.

6. It feels amazing! 🤩
Let’s be honest, a reflexology foot treatment simply feels fantastic. Sometimes that’s reason enough to book. 😉

So, reflexology may be exactly what you need, whoever you are.

During this past week of teaching, we spent a lot of time talking about the value of ‘symptoms’ in the reflexology environment. I thought I’d share a post about it with you.

Symptoms are signs or feelings in the human body that indicate something may not be functioning normally, or quite as it should be.

Symptoms are subjective, and usually experienced and reported by the person rather than directly observed by others.

Symptoms help doctors and healthcare professionals understand what might be wrong with the body, and guides them in diagnosing illnesses, or health conditions.

Symptoms are the signs that a reflexologist and their client use to help guide the way that the reflexologist formulates the treatment plan for the client at each session.

A reduction in Symptoms suggests that the reflexology is supporting the body’s natural healing processes and the improvement of overall well-being.

Now you know how important it is to tell your reflexologist about any symptoms you have. Particularly the most annoying ones, that impact your day to day life.

Another person fully trained and certified in Ear Reflexology and Ear Seeding.👂🎓

Congratulations Tonya. 🥳

Tonya has a business that includes ear candling. She has now added the ear reflexology & ear seeding as a therapy to support her clients with a variety of symptoms.

To support the symptoms that were troubling her case study person, Tonya carefully selected points on which to place ear seeds on her ears. Her client experienced great results!

I’m enjoying a fabulous full week of teaching, with the students in the Diploma in Reflexology Class who are undertaking their learning on the block course structure. 👩🏼‍🏫

It’s a huge week for them!

We have covered 4 Modules of the course work, and prepared them to start doing the practical sessions, and case study work that they are required to do, once they get home. 🗂️📝👣

They are doing brilliantly!

Here’s something I’d like you think about …

Choosing the right practitioner/therapist and establishing a good working relationship with them is extremely important.

In the natural health or complementary therapy arena there is definitely plenty of choice around who you choose to see. Though this may sometimes mean that you may have to travel a little further to see the person of your choice, in the long run it may prove to be a valuable decision.👍

A good natural health professional, and the right one for you, can provide you with an invaluable companion and profound support throughout your healing journey.💫

I highly recommend that selecting the right practitioner for you should involve checking their credentials. Is this person fully qualified and certified? Do they belong to an organisation that governs their modality in your area or country? Does their website or social media presence portray someone who is the right fit for you?

Then once you’ve met the practitioner and had your first session with them, I suggest that you evaluate things before being cajoled into booking your follow-up session.🤔

Definitely when it comes to the reflexology experience, and the potential for improving your state of health and wellness, how you feel in their presence and in their therapy room is an extremely important factor to consider.☺️

In my experience and professional opinion you should be seeking a practitioner and therapeutic space in which you feel completely safe, nurtured, and valued as a person. This kind of environment will provide you with the best potential for deep relaxation, and the highest possibility of healing in whatever way you seek.💙

What a privilege to be a part of the team that supports patients at Mercy Hospice.

It’s 4 years since I was approached by the coordinator of their Manaaki Wellness program to ask if the students of the Auckland School of Reflexology could be involved in giving reflexology as a part of this wonderful program.

Since then a team of us have been a part of this program. Next visit is tomorrow.

As, I said in my first sentence … What a privilege. 💙

Another person fully trained and certified in Ear Reflexology and Ear Seeding.👂🎓

Congratulations Olivia. 🥳

Olivia used the ear work as part of a regular foot reflexology, or sometimes integrated foot and facial reflexology routine.

To support the symptoms that were troubling each of her clients, Olivia carefully selected points on which to place ear seeds on her clients ears. They experienced great results!

The benefits of Reflexology are varied and numerous ... in fact infinite!

As Reflexologists we make no claim to cure or even treat disorders, illnesses, or conditions. We’ve all seen it do amazing things for our clients, but we let the therapy speak for itself.

So why is it that Reflexology has the potential to help with so many issues, physically, emotionally and mentally?

The answer is really simple, because it provides the ideal environment for the body to relax deeply and tap into its own healing abilities. 💫

If you’ve followed my posts for a while you’ll know I like to use the phrase “Reflexology interrupts the pattern of stress”.

Where there is stress, distress may occur. 😩 Where there is tension, injury may follow. 🤕 Where there is imbalance, disease could grow. 🤢

Reflexology assists the bodies nervous system to shift from a sympathetic state (fight or flight) to a parasympathetic state (rest and digest).😌

I’m sure you’ll agree that that does sound appealing! 💙

I have a number of clients who I book their repeat sessions for them. So and I have to look ahead and make sure that we have the next series of appointments booked in.

Today I noticed that one of these people only had three sessions left in the series. When I asked him if I should go ahead and book some more, his vehement response was, “Yes absolutely. This is indefinite. Don’t put any restrictions on it.”

Isn’t that awesome!😆

This post popped up in my Facebook Memories from last year, and I thought it would be a useful reminder to post it again this year.

Yup that’s my hair brush in the photo! 😄

Did you know that your hair brush can be a useful ‘therapeutic’ tool? And you don’t even need to have any hair, because it’s not about your hair, it’s about your scalp.

I brush my hair to neaten it up between each of my clients. But, truth be told, the benefits of the brushing moment reach beyond a tidy ponytail.

The sensation of the brush bristles across the skin of your head, is like a mini massage that provides a stimulating sensation to your scalp, and many nerve endings located there.

Lightly tapping your head and neck with the bristle side of the brush can further boost circulation and awaken nerve endings, creating a refreshing, energizing sensation.

This gentle stimulation may also help relieve tension in your scalp and neck, leaving you feeling more relaxed and revitalized

It’s such a simple, yet effective ‘pick me up’, to use in your day.

But don’t just take my word for it … Try it!

This week I had a great conversation with one of my clients about Grounding, and activities we can use to Ground Ourselves.

I thought this may be helpful to all of you too, so I engaged AI to create a helpful image to share all these activities with you.
