Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that all the systems of the body are mapped out in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is a well established holistic therapy which treats the mind and body as a whole to achieve a state of general well-being. An increasing number of people are using this safe, natural therapy as a way of relaxing and harmonising the body. I have completed two diplomas each in Reflexology and 'Anatomy and Physiology' and am a member of Reflexology New Zealand. All RNZ practitioners have satisfied important criteria in relation to professional knowledge, training and continued education, and are bound by the code of ethics and code of practice set down by Reflexology New Zealand. Your treatment will be undertaken within the premises of my school The Auckland School of Reflexology in the convenient suburb of Albany, Auckland, New Zealand.

I love how Mel transforms the upstairs therapy room that she and Maria share, into the ‘Massage at Heart’ branding and theme for her 2 days. 💛

I’m actually pretty envious of everyone receiving a massage with her on this rainy day. ☔️

But don’t tell my clients downstairs that. 🤫😉😍

Setting up my treatment room for the day and thought I would share this little corner that gives me joy.
My 'Happy Place' sign was a gift from my daughter and it always reminds me to be happy and present in the moment.
My new little fancy clock slowly ticks away the time and my massage oil within easy reach is essential for making your muscles feel supple and your skin nourished...but the whole set-up with some greenery and light. Perfect and peaceful.

Enjoy your day as I will mine x Mel

We live in a time when self-healing and self responsibility for health is becoming more and more normal, attractive and popular.💙

Embracing natural therapies that support this does not mean rejecting orthodox medicine. In fact it means turning to the orthodox for the diagnosis, and having a wide range of choices to assist you in the healing process ... orthodox and natural!

It is now more normal and mainstream to use therapies that aren't usually part of orthodox medical care, alongside it.

Complimentary Therapies like Reflexology.👣❤️

This weekend sees the end of the classes for all my 2026 Diploma in Reflexology Students. 📝🗂️📚📑

In a month they will have their Exam Day. This consists of a written exam paper and a practical exam, giving a session combining a short ear or hand reflexology treatment, with a full foot reflexology treatment.

🔹They have a very full file of course notes.
🔹They have worked with 6 people multiple times to do their case study work.
🔹They have completed various assignments.

🔹And completed a Certificate in Anatomy & Physiology

It’s been a full year, and I am extremely proud of all of them.

You probably know by now that Reflexology is a Holistic Therapy.

A holistic therapy is an approach to healing that considers the whole person - mind, body, emotions, and spirit - rather than focusing only on specific symptoms or conditions.

It recognizes that physical health is deeply connected to mental and emotional well-being, and aims to restore homeostasis across all areas of life. ⚖️

Homeostasis is the fancy medical word for balance. 😉

In reflexology, the intention is to create an environment in which to address the root causes of imbalance, and empower individuals to understand their own needs, plus participate in their own wellbeing journey. ❤️

Saltd. has quickly become the top selling product in my treatment space. 🛍️

This beautiful looking product, and effective source of magnesium, is the creation of Kate and Bruce.

Kate completed her Diploma in Reflexology with me through the Auckland School of Reflexology in 2024. At the same time she was quietly working away in the background to create this magnesium product range.

Myself and members of our family use it daily, and I am delighted to recommend and sell it to my clients, and those who pop in to make their purchase.

Magnesium supports muscle function and the ability of the nervous system to relax. 💪😌

Pretty much all of us need a top up of magnesium at some point in our lives, if not on an ongoing basis.

I have been taking magnesium supplements for years and years, but this year after being gifted my first pack by Kate I have shifted to using the spray in place of supplements. I experience more targeted support with muscle tension and aches.

Just thought I’d like you to know this. 💙

I thought you might like to know this about me ...

As a teenager (in South Africa 🇿🇦 ) I was introduced to reflexology by a family friend, who ‘magically’ massaged away my headache using my feet. I was intrigued! 👣

As one says ‘the bug bit’. From then on I incorporated it into my life wherever possible. My family and friends knew I would never turn down the opportunity to ‘rub’ their feet, little realizing that this was the most valuable apprenticeship I could ask for.

After leaving school I gained a degree in music at The University of Pretoria, and began the first of my careers - a professional musician (in the South African Police Band & as an orchestral musician), and a music teacher.

Then followed some wonderful years as a primary school teacher, a stint in retail, and running our own web based music business with my husband, and still always teaching private flute, piano and music theory lessons.

In the middle of this our family emigrated to New Zealand. 🇳🇿

I am grateful to have loved all my careers, including this one that I’ve been in for 14 years …. Reflexology Practitioner and Teacher.

Being now in my 50's I am thankful for my physical health and emotional well being, but appreciate more than anything that this is not a coincidence. 🥰

I have always listened to my body and responded to its likes and dislikes. Don't get me wrong I do not abstain from chocolate, coffee and fries, but our bodies tell us when enough is enough ... and I (mostly) listen to mine.

I commit every day to helping clients to do exactly that ... learning to listen to their bodies. The therapeutic session I give, and the professional feedback you receive afterwards will get you started on a journey of discovery and well being that may impact and support your life on many levels and in many ways.

PS. Photo taken in 2010 when I performed as a soloist with a symphony orchestra in Auckland … and was much younger. 😆

Whilst I am obviously able to rattle off a list of things that I detected while working on your feet, the most valuable feedback after your reflexology comes from you!

I always ask my clients how they feel before their session and again on completion. And then I encourage them to observe any changes in the day or two following the treatment too.

If you don't know how you feel before going for any form of body work, then how will you be able to compare the sensations and changes you may experience afterwards.

You can actually learn more from your own observations than from what any practitioner can tell you. After all you are with yourself all the time. And your body is communicating with you all the time ... listen to it!

And then, yes, if you need assistance interpreting what it's saying please ask.
