We’re proud to support The Day of the Dead community ceremony, a ceremony for everyone touched by loss, creating a space for people to come together and remember those that have gone, or are going. 💚

At Mercy Hospice, we believe normalising conversations about death and grief helps us do death better and builds stronger compassionate and capable communities.

If you’ve lost someone, are supporting someone who is grieving, or simply want to be part of a healing, inclusive community experience — you are warmly welcome. Please bring any mementos to add to the story space for our loved ones.

Fuel keeps our care moving, and right now we urgently need your help. 🚙

Last year, Mercy Hospice’s team of community nurses visited more than 1200 patients in their homes across central Auckland.

In patients' homes, community nurses provide assessments, develop care plans, and source equipment, such as a bed hoist, wheelchair, or hospital bed.

Caring for people in their homes removes the stress in travelling to appointments, providing comfort and dignity in a place that is familiar.

Keeping palliative care in the community is critical, and we can’t do it without you.

If you’re able, please donate to our Tank of Thanks Urgent Appeal at https://tank-of-thanks-urgent-appeal.raiselysite.com/

Fuel keeps our care moving, and right now we urgently need your help. 🚗

Today we’re launching our Tank of Thanks Urgent Appeal to support our community palliative care service during the global fuel crisis.

Mercy’s community nurses drive an average of 10,000km each month caring for patients in their homes: providing comfort, dignity, and support. But rising fuel costs pose a threat to our regular services.

Keeping palliative care in the community is critical, and we can’t do it without you.

Mercy Hospice cared for Stephen Bradshaw in his home and in the Inpatient Unit. 🏡 “We couldn't believe it when we came here... We just couldn’t believe how beautiful it was,” wife Louie Loten said.

At any one time, Mercy Hospice cares for about 450 central Aucklanders on average – those like Stephen.

If you’re able, please donate to Mercy Hospice before the end of the financial year, to ensure more families like Stephen’s can access our compassionate, quality care.

For Louie Loten, Mercy Hospice was “just such a comfortable place to be” for her husband Stephen Bradshaw, and their wider family.

Their Maltese puppy Bear was able to visit, and members of their large whānau were able to sleep at Stephen’s side each night.

“It really was a very positive experience. We had no idea it could be like this.”

We’re so proud to continue the Sisters of Mercy’s long tradition of meeting people exactly where they’re at and caring with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Rainbow Parade 2026 — from our CEO and exec team to volunteers, whānau, and community members. The support was incredible. Hearing people in the crowd call out “Wow, Mercy Hospice — thank you!” genuinely moved us.

Every year, we get a little closer to bridging equity gaps in palliative care, and we’re excited to keep sharing that commitment with all of you. 💛🌈

When Stephen Bradshaw was admitted to Mercy Hospice’s Inpatient Unit, a doctor asked what he wanted while in Mercy’s care. Stephen wanted three things 📝:

* To visit his marae one last time
* To get married
* To get a moko (a traditional Māori tattoo)

In March 2024, he and Louie – surrounded by their family and friends – were married in the garden at Mercy Hospice, in a ceremony arranged by staff and assisted by volunteers.

It was “quite incredible really,” Louie said.
Mercy Hospice’s care is only possible with your support. Donate before March 31 and claim your tax rebate in the new financial year.
