Happy New Year to you all. I hope that you have all had time to connect with loved ones, friends or family and some sunshine and a slower pace over the summer break. I write this on the first New Moon of the year - Whiro. Our first class for 2026 falls on Ōuenuku - as the Dark phases of the Moon lighten this is a good time to come together and share learning. Although this phase of the moon is medium energy, we will start gently as we’ll all be adjusting to being in class and moving together. As I begin working for this year I contemplate how I might bring some of the slower moments and ways of living that the holidays allow. More time outside and in nature. Going slowly. Focusing on the everyday, the ordinary or small moments, the pauses.
Perhaps a simple beginning practice for 2026 is to spend some time consciously breathing. Focusing on the pace, the sound and the rhythm of the breath Hā ki roto: Breathe in (literally, "breath to the inside").Hā ki waho: Breathe out (literally, "breath to the outside").
Thursday evening classes resume this week on the 22nd January - looking forward to seeing you there.
