A wise woman once said... true story below!! Get your stuff sorted people. If you don’t know where to start call us or call Philippa Farmer - Canopy Group!! Start 2020 right ... 😍

I went to the bank this morning with my 18 year old son to open a new account. He probably didn’t need me there, but he’s off to uni this year so I’m making the most of every opportunity!

It was a fairly simple process, but took a very long time and we were at the counter for over half an hour. Not as long, however as the family next to me, and this is the story I want to tell today.

You see, this family were with the teller when we arrived, and they were still there when we left. I couldn’t help but overhear that they were trying to get a Trauma insurance claim paid. This means that their loved one had suffered a serious medical event, and from what I overheard they were now incapacitated.

They had come prepared with handfuls of papers -insurance letters, bank statements and a Power of Attorney. But the whole time I was there with my son, they were stuck in a circular argument of policy owner vs beneficiary vs Power of Attorney. The teller was struggling to explain exactly why they couldn’t lodge their claim and the frustration of all parties was clear.

And I felt frustrated too. Standing right next to me were the people I got into business for. The reason I do what I do. And the very situation I want all my clients to avoid.

If someone close to you suffers a serious medical event or even death, the last thing you want is to be standing at a counter dealing with a person you have never met, who does not understand your circumstances trying to claim on a policy that has been set up in such a way that the only person who can claim on it is the one person who is now unable to. And all of this happening in a public space for anyone to overhear.

This is what I do on a daily basis. I ensure policies are set up correctly, with appropriate ownership so that the right amount of money ends up in the right hands, at the right time. I will help with filling in claim forms, personally sitting with clients in the privacy of their homes to explain, complete and make sure everyone understands exactly what is happening. I help them gather all the necessary documents and information to help their claim be paid as quickly as possible.

Because at a time like this, the last thing anyone wants is more stress.

If you have a bank sold insurance policy, make it your 2020 New Years resolution to review, understand and assess if this is the best choice for you. If you need help with this feel free to get in touch with me. Obligation free and don’t forget, my services are at no cost to you.

Who knew (I didn't!) that August is 'Happiness Happens' Month...the month reminds us that happiness happens one small moment at a time and it’s our job to recognise those moments when they happen. ❤️

But sometimes it's not quite as simple as that, the second part of this weeks blog is especially interesting...

22 - 28 July 2019 is Loss and Grief Week.
Remembering those we loved and cared about after they have gone is important because memories matter. They will help to make sure that you never forget them, or the special place they have in your life.
This year remember someone special by posting a story, picture or memory on your social media that is meaningful to you and use the hashtag ❤️
