Maree Seerden, founder of the Studio, has been a devotee to the technique for over 30 years; she started teaching Pilates based exercises in 1992 in London at the famous Body Control studios in South Kensington under the auspices of Gordon Thomson. As Pilates has grown in popularity, the Pilates Body Studio now renamed the Polestar Pilates Studio, receives referrals from health and medical professionals from around New Zealand . Maree also lectures and presents workshops on the Pilates method to various medical and health organisations on an ongoing basis. Maree Seerden makes multiple overseas trips annually to further increase her knowledge of Pilates and trains with masters from all around the world. She always comes back inspired and motivated and shares her new ideas with staff and clients. Maree is also the New Zealand Licensee and Master Educator for Polestar Pilates Education USA. Polestar Pilates Education (www.polestareducation.com) offers training and certification programmes throughout the world and is widely considered to be the most stringent and modern method of Pilates certification available today. In New Zealand many physiotherapists, osteopaths and fitness trainers have become Polestar Pilates certified. The Polestar Studio is used as the training centre for Polestar Pilates Education certification programmes. Studios that are Polestar training centres are at the forefront of advances in Pilates techniques and, therefore, are better equipped to pass these advances to their clients. Because of our commitment to Polestar Pilates Education and the constant evolvement and refinement of Pilates methodologies, the staff at the Polestar Pilates Studio continuously update their teaching skills to incorporate these new trends into their clients' regimen for maximum benefits.

We welcome new instructor to the studio Kelly Greacen. Kelly graduated with Polestar Pilates UK in London and is also a physiotherapist with over a decade of experience helping people move with greater confidence, strength and ease.

Kelly is passionate about empowering individuals through mindful movement. She has worked with a diverse range of clients - from post-surgical rehabilitation and injury recovery, to elite level performers.
Her clinical specialties include injury management, post-operative rehabilitation, and supporting women through all stages of life - including prenatal, post natal, menopause and beyond.

As it is Pilates day here are some photos from the studio when it first opened in 1995. The Body Studio was the original name of the studio and we were a pioneer studio introducing Pilates to New Zealand. I had just returned from 10 years in London where I had worked as an apprentice with Gordon Thomson at the Body Control Studios in South Kensington London for five years. My introduction to Pilates was in 1987. The photos are with Black Cap cricketer who was rehabilitated from a back injury and as well became an instructor - it was the first time I saw Pilates become competitive! Coming from Pilates in London which was very dancer dominated and to then see this competitive, sweaty streak introduced while Dion and I trained some All black and rugby league legends. There are many great memories of the past 23 years with amazing instructors working at the studio from all over the world and amazing clients who have been practicing with us for all these years. Thank you to the genius and legend Mr Joe and Mrs Clara Pilates for this amazing Methodology originally know as “Contrology”

Today we celebrate Joseph Pilates and Happy Pilates Day to all you⭐️ it’s amazing that Joe had a dream of seeing Pilates as a mainstream form of exercise, and now, years later, we’re living in a world where Pilates is the go-to movement routine for so many people all over New Zealand and worldwide. To quote Joe:
“Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness”
“You are as young as your spine”
“pilates is a complete coordination of body mind and spirit”
“you will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions”
“Change happens through movement and movement heals”

To all our wonderful clients,

It has been a joy to work with you all through another year, and so rewarding to see the incredible progress you have all made in your movement and wellbeing off the back of two incredibly disruptive years prior!

We are so grateful for your support and have missed those that didn’t quite make it to the studio this year; we hope you are healthy and well.

We look forward to welcoming you all back again in 2023 to quench your thirst for movement after a much needed break!
