✨ The Sacred Art of Incense at Aroha ✨
At Aroha, we take the burning of incense, resins, and white sage seriously. These sacred aromatics are more than fragrance — they are an ancient way of shifting energy, creating sacred space, and inviting stillness into our lives.
For thousands of years, cultures around the world have used natural incense for cleansing, meditation, ceremony, and wellbeing. The incense we carry is artisan, natural, and deeply grounded in these traditions.
One of the inspirations behind our incense offerings comes from the beautiful philosophy known as the Ten Virtues of Koh — wisdom recorded by Japanese monks in the 16th century and lovingly preserved by the historic incense house Shoyeido, a family business crafting incense in Kyoto for over 300 years.
The Ten Virtues remind us of the quiet power of incense:
• It brings communication with the transcendent
• It refreshes mind and body
• It removes impurity
• It brings alertness
• It is a companion in solitude
• In the midst of busy affairs, it brings a moment of peace
• When it is plentiful, one never tires of it
• When there is little, still one is satisfied
• Age does not change its efficacy
• Used every day, it does no harm
Lighting incense is a simple ritual that invites presence. The gentle rising smoke can transform a room, mark the beginning of meditation, cleanse a space, or simply offer a moment to pause and breathe.
At Aroha we offer traditional Central and South American blends for cleansing and grounding, alongside pure Japanese incense from a family that has been perfecting their craft for centuries.
Step into the ritual.
Light the incense.
Let the moment arrive.
