Most hospice care doesn’t happen in a hospice. And it doesn’t look the way people expect.

At Franklin Hospice, we don’t come in and take over. We work alongside GPs and hospital teams — adding an extra layer of specialist support. We step in when we’re needed — and step out again when things are stable.

We might first get involved when treatment is no longer working and when symptoms start to become harder to manage. We support people to stay comfortable at home,
help families understand what’s ahead, and bring a sense of calm when things feel uncertain.

And when things settle — we step back. Then, if something changes, we step in again.

Alongside this, our care is holistic. It’s not just about managing pain or symptoms.
It’s about the emotional, practical, and human side of what people are going through.

Supporting whānau.
Answering the questions people are often afraid to ask.
Helping people feel less alone in it.

As things progress, we’re there more often. Walking alongside families right through to the end of life.
And after someone dies, our care doesn’t stop. We continue to support families through bereavement —
because that journey matters just as much.

This is hospice care.

Not a place. But a service that wraps around people, when and where they need it most.

Around half of this care is funded by our community. So if you’ve ever wondered how you can help, there are a few simple ways:

💛 Donate
💛 Volunteer
💛 Shop at our op shop
💛 Consider leaving a gift in your Will
💛 Come along to our community fundraisers
💛 Share this page with your friends

Because this care exists because the community makes it possible.
