It is such an honour to be able to share our story and experiences in Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People and New Zealand Disability Employers Network’s new, and much needed resource and information hub https://oneinsix.nz/

Initiatives like Project Employ can only do so much - we need employers to do their part too. There are so many skilled, reliable neurodiverse job seekers in New Zealand that businesses are missing out on.

Make today the day that you check out https://oneinsix.nz/ then reach out to emily@projectemploy.nz to begin the very easy process of employing a Project Employ graduate 👏👏👏

Real change starts when we challenge our assumptions.

Project Employ supports neurodiverse young adults into paid work, and around half their staff are neurodiverse.

They’ve learned that good employment practice comes down to listening, flexibility, and clear communication.

The biggest barrier? Fear. Employers worry they’ll say the wrong thing, so they say nothing.

Their advice? Just ask.

Support starts with a conversation, not assumptions.

And their experience shows the cost of hiring neurodiverse staff is no different to anyone else.

Who are we?

Founded in 2018, Project Employ aims to create a community where young adults with intellectual or learning disabilities are engaged in meaningful, paid employment in the same way as any other member of society.

Project Employ Web Series In 2019 we launched our first web series, following some inspiring young people who have successfully gained community-based employment. Director Angela Bloomfield, producer Sarah Dann-Hoare, cameraman Sean Rundle and editor Tibor Riddering have captured just how important employment is to those with disabilities.

The short films serve as a teaching tool, a motivational and informative resource for young adults and their families, and as a way of showing employers that it is possible and beneficial to employ young people with disabilities.

Project Employ Training Cafe and Supported Employment Programme Opening in 2020, Choices training cafe will be the first of its kind in New Zealand. Through our 1, 2, 3 year programme PE trainees will be supported to develop the employability skills needed to gain and maintain meaningful, paid employment.
