A Mother’s Story: Honouring Simote

When Meleseini’s son Simote was diagnosed with cancer at just 36, she brought him and his family home, to be surrounded by love, faith and family. With Hospice West Auckland’s support, they found care, comfort, and peace in his final months.

Thirteen years on, Meleseini still celebrates her son’s life every year, thankful he did not suffer - and grateful for the care that helped them through.

Volunteer with us this December – Trees of Remembrance

We’re looking for volunteers to help with our Trees of Remembrance campaign this December — a special way for our community to remember loved ones and support Hospice care.

Volunteers will be out across West Auckland (Kumeu, New Lynn, Westgate and Henderson), offering people the chance to make a donation and write a message in memory of someone special on a Remembrance Tree star. 🌟

📅 3rd – 21st December, Wednesday to Sunday
⏰ 2-hour shifts, with two volunteers per shift

You’re welcome to sign up with a friend or family member – just make sure each person completes the registration form.

📧 Or email trees_of_remembrance@hwa.org.nz and our team will be in touch.

Today we are proud to support the UN International Day of Care & Support, and the Carers NZ and Carers Alliance spotlight on carers and their important unpaid role. More than a million New Zealanders support a friend or family member who is frail, unwell, or has a long-term health condition or disability. Caring for family members who rely on this support is a common role, one we may all experience in our lives, but a recent survey completed by 1700 carers shows that 92% feel invisible and unvalued.

Today has the simple goal of showing appreciation to family carers, such as:
* Call, text, email to say hi and thanks
* Take time for a chat
* Drop off something yummy
* Offer to support with a chore
* Go for a drive, walk, movie or outing - make time just for them

Take some time today to make a family carer you know feel seen and appreciated.
