Last week we were privileged to welcome wonderful new staff and volunteers to the Hospice team at our Mihi Whakatau - Welcome to Hospice morning. We received some lovely comments about the workshop, including how valuable it was learning about the purpose behind Hospice, our large coverage area, our history, and how vital our op shops and fundraising is to bridge the funding gap.

A big thank you to Mike and Dani from our Gold Partners Davis Funerals for providing an informative session on funeral planning for our patients and whānau.

We had a wonderful group attending who said that they appreciated:
• Learning about the role of a funeral director and the practical aspects of funerals
• Gaining a clearer understanding of the options, considerations, and choices available
• The open, respectful way the session was delivered, which made a sensitive topic feel approachable and safe

In February, our Kaimahi Māori Rōpū and Mauri Mate Group came together for the first time. It was a special hui focused on whanaungatanga, building relationships, sharing kōrero, and strengthening our Māori voice within Hospice West Auckland. Together, we reflected on how we can better honour the values and perspectives of Māori whānau, and continue to strengthen the ways we support our community.

This is kotahitanga (togetherness) in action, showing that we are stronger when we stand together.

A huge thank you to Dilmah Tea for their generous support of our He Whare Korowai – Home From Home facility at Hospice House.

They are providing an unlimited supply of delicious Dilmah tea, along with a stunning tea presenter box, so our patients, whānau and visitors will never go thirsty. Often it’s the quiet moments shared over a cup of tea that can mean the most, and thanks to Dilmah we can always offer those small moments of care and connection.

One of our amazing Services Administration Coordinators Bhumika is lacing up her sneakers for Round the Bays this year in support of Hospice West Auckland.

Bhumika says: “Round the Bays brings our family together. We challenge ourselves to run 8km while enjoying a beautiful day out with tens of thousands of people. It’s so much fun 😊”

We love that it’s about whānau, fresh air, community spirit, and making a difference for our local Hospice families at the same time.

What a fantastic day we had at Henderson Heroes 2026! ☀️

With the sun shining and our incredible community heroes and first responders out in force, it was such a great celebration of the people who look after West Auckland every day.

We loved connecting with so many local families and having some great conversations along the way. A big thank you to everyone who took part in our myth-busting quiz, and congratulations to Ellen from Glen Eden, the lucky winner of our hamper! 🎉

A huge thank you to Neighbourhood Support Waitākere for hosting this wonderful event. Already looking forward to next year.

Our He Whare Korowai – Home from Home facility at Hospice House has now been open for three months, and already it’s making a real difference for families.

In this story, one of our patients shares how their stay in respite care gave them the chance to pause, recharge and feel truly supported by expert hands. “It’s been a week I’ll always be grateful for,” Alvin says. “For my parents, for me, Hospice has made an incredibly hard journey so much easier. The more people understand what Hospice really does, the better. I’m just so thankful.”
