We’re excited to introduce Layne Kay, who has recently joined the LifeCare whānau as an Occupational Health Technician based in Dunedin.
Layne’s journey into health care started with a long‑standing interest in the sector. He holds a BSc in Genetics from the University of Otago and most recently worked in the disability sector, and prior to that in a Medical Laboratory.
Layne says that when the opportunity to join LifeCare came up, it felt like the perfect way to turn that interest into a meaningful career.
What Layne is enjoying most so far is meeting new people and getting exposure to a wide range of workplaces and environments. A highlight from the first weeks? “Definitely learning all the different equipment techniques, it’s been really interesting.”
Outside of work, Layne can usually be found attempting to fix a boat that stubbornly refuses to cooperate; a challenge that comes with equal parts frustration and humour!
The best piece of life advice Layne has ever received is simple yet grounding:
“As long as no one is being hurt, relax, it doesn’t matter.”
Coffee order: Flat white
Goal for the first year: “To do a good job and learn the role fully.”
We’re thrilled to have Layne on the team and can’t wait to see the impact and growth ahead. Here's Layne (on the left) with the team on the induction programme.
