🏉❄️ Supporting our Junior East Coast Bays Rugby Team ❄️🏉
We’re proud to donate **instant ice packs** to help keep our junior players safe on the rugby field. Quick access to cold therapy can make a big difference in the first moments after a knock, strain, or flare-up during games and training.
Applying cold early can:
• Reduce pain
• Limit swelling and inflammation
• Slow minor bleeding in soft tissue
• Help kids return to play safely (when appropriate)
Ice is helpful for:
✅ Bumps and bruises
✅ Muscle strains
✅ Ligament sprains
✅ Impact injuries
✅ Flare-ups of growth-related conditions like **Sever’s (heel pain)** and **Osgood-Schlatter (knee pain)**
# # # Growth-related conditions in junior rugby
**Sever’s (heel pain)**
Common in active kids during growth spurts. Ice after activity can help calm inflammation at the heel.
**Osgood-Schlatter (knee pain below kneecap)**
Often worsens with running and jumping. Ice after games/training can reduce pain and swelling.
🧊 Activate pack and wrap in cloth/towel (avoid direct skin contact)
🧊 Apply for **15–20 minutes**
🧊 Remove for at least 20 minutes before reapplying
🧊 Use after activity or immediately after a knock
🧊 Stop if skin becomes very red, numb, or painful
Ice helps **manage symptoms**, but it doesn’t fix the cause. If pain:
• lasts more than a few days
• causes limping
• keeps returning
• involves swelling or reduced movement
➡️ It’s best to have your child assessed by a healthcare professional.
We’re proud to support our young athletes and help parents feel confident managing those sideline bumps and growth pains. Stay safe, play hard, and keep enjoying the game! 💙🏉❄️
