Ayni is where clay, community, and spirit meet ✨

We’re welcoming new wheels into the space, more tools for connection, self-exploration, and gathering as a community. Clay is grounding, meditative, and full of magic, and Ayni is here to bring calm to busy minds while holding space for authenticity to flourish.

Some wheels come with stories…
One limped over from Waiheke, fixed lovingly by Renton from Hillside Pottery (potentially the last wheel he will ever repair). Another was rescued from Whitford, abandoned and reborn in our studio. A couple more made the journey from Hellensville and Laingholm... needing lots of TLC, fresh paint, and help from my ever-eager husband.

Every wheel has its journey, and so does every maker.
Here’s to more clay, more community, and more magic in 2026

Whistles & Globular Flutes Specialised Workshop ✨

Join us for a weekend workshop at Ayni on Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 November, 4–6:30 pm, where over two consecutive sessions (2.5 hours each), you’ll hand-build your own ceramic whistle and/or globular flute, instruments that carry the breath of life in distinct ways.

Whistles: bright, playful tones that awaken the air element. Sharp, clear, full of vitality.

Globular flutes: deeper, meditative sounds that evoke stillness and reflection. Found in ancient cultures from Peru to China, these instruments have been used for over 7000 years in rituals of connection, solitude, and reverence.

This workshop invites you to slow down, listen, and explore how intention and breath shape both form and sound. Come ready to get your hands dirty, share a few laughs, and create something truly special.

Energy exchange: $145

Meet Jesús Galíndez ✨

Clay artist, sound vessel maker, and our newest Artist in Residence at Ayni. 🎶

We’re honoured to welcome to Ayni during his stay in Aotearoa.
Born in Venezuela and living in Peru for the past seven years, Jesús discovered his love for clay under the guidance of Taki Runa, a renowned artist from Pisac.

Specialising in sound vessels, he crafts whistles and globular flutes that blend form, vibration, and spirit - instruments that carry the breath of life.
Jesús is also known for his beautifully hand-carved stamps, which he uses to imprint symbols and textures that speak of connection, memory, and rhythm.

During his residency, Jesús will be working in the studio most days, sharing his techniques, passion, and insights.
You’re warmly invited to drop by, watch him at work, and connect with his journey.

His presence also inspires our upcoming Whistles & Globular Flutes Workshop at the end of November, a celebration of clay, sound, and community.

🌿 Stay tuned for more details on the workshop and how to join us!

Learning Clay ✨

This week, we honour the process, the alchemical magic that transforms soft, fragile forms into something enduring.
Our vessels are now ready for another round of deep transformation. Fire will soon reveal their true essence, sealing the glazes we’ve applied so they can become part of our daily lives.

Pausing to understand what we are doing is part of the integration process.

Finding stillness in movement ✨

On the wheel, everything spins, yet within that motion, we learn to slow down.
To find our centre.
To move at our own pace in a fast-paced world.

Each piece begins with a breath, a moment of stillness, and a conversation with the clay.

There are two more intimate wheel-throwing sessions this year (max 4 people) on 6th and 20th November.
Come join us for the last offerings of the year.

The Clay Tribe ✨

So grateful for the connections created along the way.

Ayni is where the tribe gathers, where we encourage each other, learn from one another, share jokes and serious moments alike.
It’s a space where we can simply be.

Because in the chaos of the day, we’re so often expected to perform, achieve, and prove ourselves…
But here, we get to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the ride.

It’s not about what we make, or how much we make. It’s about sitting with the discomfort of the new, and trusting that everything is already perfect, just as it is.

Learning to speak the language of clay ✨

Before the wheel starts spinning, we begin by preparing the clay, pressing, folding, wedging and listening.
It’s a quiet conversation between hands and earth.

In the studio, we learn not just how to shape clay, but how to communicate with it, to find balance, patience, and flow in the process.

Green babes and clay creations ✨

When I first moved into the studio, I brought some of my plants along. And over time, they’ve propagated and spread their love everywhere

The studio has become such a beautiful container for the soul, a space where earth reveals all its colours.

I often reflect on how fitting it is that the studio lives in the basement, the underground, the dark side, the universe of clay... the Ukupacha, the underworld in Andean cosmology, where transformation begins.

Intimate Classes ✨

Join our next five-week term, starting 10 November.

Monday 6–8:30 pm
Tuesday 6–8:30 pm
Wednesday 6–8:30 pm

Class sizes have been intentionally reduced so each person can receive full attention and enjoy a more gentle, mindful approach to clay.
You’ll explore both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques that support your journey of self-discovery while connecting with a motivated community of clay lovers.

This is time for yourself.
As we work the clay, the clay shapes us.
We are indeed a universe of possibilities — and Ayni won’t limit you, but will gently guide you as you learn this humbling craft.

Erica will be your host, sharing her knowledge to help you embrace the process.
