🎧 Are your earbuds damaging your hearing?

Most people don't notice hearing damage until it's already done.

Here are 3 early warning signs to watch for:

1. Ringing after you take them out β€” even briefly. That buzz or hiss is tinnitus, and it's your ears telling you they're stressed.

2. Turning the volume up more than you used to. If you need it louder to get the same clarity, your hearing has already changed.

3. Muffled hearing after a listening session. Sounds should return to normal immediately. If they don't, your ears are overworked.

The fix doesn't mean ditching your earbuds. Try the 60/60 rule β€” no more than 60% volume for 60 minutes at a time β€” and make sure your earbuds fit well so you're not compensating with extra volume.

Already noticing these signs? It's worth getting a hearing check. Damage is permanent, but catching it early means you can prevent further loss.

Because noise-canceling earbuds are so comfortable and block everything out, people wear them for three, four, five hours straight without realizing the cumulative effect on their ears.

To acknowledge World Hearing Day's theme this year: From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children. πŸ‘§πŸ§’

90 million children and adolescents worldwide are living with hearing loss. Most don't know it. Many won't be diagnosed for years.

The causes are often surprisingly common β€” ear infections, fluid behind the eardrum, even impacted earwax. These are preventable and treatable conditions, yet they frequently go undetected, quietly affecting a child's speech, language, learning, and social development. Left unaddressed, the ripple effects can follow a child into adulthood β€” impacting their education, employment, and quality of life.

The good news? Early detection changes everything.

If you have any concerns about your child's hearing, don't wait for the next awareness day. Reach out to us β€” we'd love to help πŸ’™

πŸ‘‚πŸ‘‚ Tinnitus Awareness Week πŸ‘‚πŸ‘‚

To wrap up Tinnitus Awareness Week in Aotearoa, we wanted to share an important reminder πŸ’

Tinnitus is often linked to an underlying condition β€” such as age-related hearing loss, an ear injury, or issues with circulation. For many people, tinnitus can improve when the underlying cause is treated, or through other supports that help reduce or mask the noise, making it less noticeable. (Source: Mayo Clinic)

If you’re experiencing tinnitus, you’re not alone β€” and support is available. πŸ’™

πŸ‘‚πŸ‘‚ Tinnitus Awareness Week πŸ‘‚πŸ‘‚

This week marks Tinnitus Awareness Week, a dedicated time to highlight the persistent ringing, buzzing, or humming sounds that many people experience every day.

Did you know that tinnitus that can be heard most of the time affects almost 1 in 10 New Zealanders? (audiology.org.nz)

Tinnitus can be frustrating and isolating, but you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Throughout the week, we encourage you to learn more, ask questions, and book a consultation if tinnitus is affecting your wellbeing. Early advice and support can make a
meaningful difference.
