⚽ Changing sports this season?

As summer sports wrap up and winter codes begin, many people move straight from one season into the next - often carrying a few aches and ni**les with them.

First of all, congrats on getting through the summer season, especially with the humidity we’ve had this year. It hasn’t been easy on players, coaches, or supporters. 🔥🌧

This is a good time to check in with your body before the next season starts.

Common issues we see during seasonal transitions include:
• Ongoing muscle tightness or soreness
• Knee, ankle, or shoulder ni**les
• Reduced strength or flexibility after a busy season
• Injuries that never fully settled

Addressing small problems early can help reduce the risk of more significant injuries once training and competition ramp up again.

Kumeu Physiotherapy is ACC registered, so if you’ve picked up an injury during sport or training, you may not need a GP referral to get started.

A reminder that you don’t need to wait for a major injury before seeing a physiotherapist. Early assessment can often help resolve smaller problems before they become ongoing issues.

🏅 Good luck to everyone taking part this weekend Ironman and Round the Bays.

Whether you’re running, walking, or supporting from the sidelines, it’s a great achievement.

After the event, it’s normal to feel things like:
• Calf and hamstring tightness
• Knee or hip stiffness
• General fatigue

If soreness lingers or something doesn’t settle after a few days, physiotherapy can help you recover properly and return to your usual routine comfortably.

🏃‍♀️ Not sure if that pain needs looking at?

After increasing training or getting back into activity, it’s common to notice new aches and stiffness.

But how do you know if it’s something that needs assessment?

It may be worth booking in if:
• The pain is sharp, worsening, or not improving
• It’s changing the way you move
• Swelling or instability is present
• It hasn’t settled after a few days of rest

Early physiotherapy can help clarify what’s going on and prevent small issues from becoming longer-term problems.

🏃 Event day is getting close.

If you’re building up for Round the Bays or another local event, this is often when small ni**les show up - calves tightening, knees grumbling, hips feeling heavier than usual.

In the final weeks:
• Avoid sudden increases in distance
• Respect recovery days
• Don’t ignore pain that changes your stride

Early assessment can help keep training on track and reduce the risk of a last-minute setback.
