It’s World Radiography Day!

Today we celebrate the people who make every scan count.

Our radiologists, medical imaging, and nuclear medicine technologists work with precision and care, helping patients feel at ease while delivering clear answers that guide every diagnosis.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. From the first call to our booking team to the final report sent to your doctor, every Allevia team member plays a vital part in your care journey. Together, they turn technology into trust and compassion into confidence.

If you’ve had an imaging procedure with us, drop a “Happy Radiography Day” in the comments to thank our team for the work they do - quietly, expertly, every single day.

What are the signs and symptoms to look out for?

In the early stages of breast cancer, there is usually no pain and no obvious signs and symptoms. It may not be easy to feel a lump, so screening mammography is the best method of detection.

However, as the cancer grows, obvious changes in the breast may appear, and these need to be checked by your doctor - and the symptoms can look like:

- A new lump
- An inverted ni**le
- Ni**le discharge
- Crusty ni**le
- Dimples, puckering or dents
- Reddened, orange-peel-like skin
- Shape change
- Unusual pain

Early detection saves lives, and any woman over 40 can receive a screening mammogram without a GP referral at Allevia Radiology at one of our five locations across Auckland. Your yearly mammogram and being breast aware are the cornerstone for ensuring breast cancer is detected early, to ensure that the best treatment can be given as soon as possible.

Getting a mammogram: what you need to know 🩷

Did you know women have a 95% chance of surviving breast cancer five years or longer when it’s detected early with a mammogram?* Regular screening is one of the most powerful ways to protect your health.

Because the risk of breast cancer increases with age, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ recommends starting regular mammograms from age 40. You don't need a GP referral once you're over 40 - you can book directly with us at any of our five Auckland locations.

A mammogram is a safe, low-dose X-ray that can detect tiny cancers long before a lump can be felt. Even if you have no symptoms, regular screening helps you stay proactive about your health and gives you the best chance for early treatment.

The best protection is early detection! Find out more about mammograms in Aotearoa here: https://www.breastcancerfoundation.org.nz/breast-awareness/mammograms

Today is World Mental Health Day.

World Mental Health Day is organised to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to support the mental health of ourselves and our loved ones.

It's important to check in on those you love and speak openly about what you're going through - one conversation can change everything.

It's as easy as TLC; touch, look, and get it checked.

As a woman, it's important to know what your normal looks like, so you can ensure any changes are noticeable.

92% of breast cancers are survivable when detected early* - and knowing the normal look and feel of your breasts can help you spot a change quickly.

If you've found something that doesn't seem normal, it’s important to chat with a doctor as soon as possible.

Early detection saves lives - with your annual mammogram and being breast aware, we can work together to increase the survival rate against breast cancer, providing the best chance for successful treatment.

Early diagnosis saves lives 💙

Prostate testing has come a long way since the standard 'finger test'. At Allevia Radiology, patients can undergo a prostate MRI scan, which allows us to detect the presence of prostate cancer through dedicated testing and screening.

This test can be taken if you have an elevated PSA, or a strong family history of prostate cancer. If you have any questions or concerns, you may choose to have an MRI scan to help detect cancer in your prostate gland - something that you can discuss with your doctor and have done at Allevia Radiology.

We are the same brand you know and trust; Mercy Radiology is now known as Allevia Radiology.
