In the coming 4 weeks or more my major concern is the impact the Covid19 is going to have on NZ and the people who reside here. Covid19 will cause a great deal of anxiety, angst and a great deal of mental uncertainty which will inevitably mould this country going forward post the lockdown being lifted whenever that maybe. It is going to take the people of this amazing country a long time to recover from this both mentally and economically. That is why we all need to open up with one another to keep a positive attitude and mind set during these dark days.
I am tired of hearing who or where the Covid19 started because it is here now and so do NOT flout the self isolation or think your immune to this deadly virus because it does not care of age, gender or race but only to infect as many people as possible.
Remember we are all in this together and showing compassion to one another will only create a greater bond to beating this terrible virus.

28/03/2020

I hope everyone are safe and well while in these times of uncertainty.
While in lockdown in NZ, mother nature will go about mending all the damage us humans have inflicted upon the land, sea and sky. Just in 3 days the blue skies are more blue because no boats spewing their diesel into our ocean, the ozone will repair itself because no planes spewing all the aviation fuel into the stratosphere, the sea is bluer because the boat craft aren't stirring up the water, the air fresh and clean because much fewer cars on the road, and the rubbish we drop in the streets or on the land have diminished to next to nothing and so the rain can't wash this rubbish into our waterways.
I hope that if and when the lockdown is lifted, the human race reboots itself in working closely with mother nature.
So all be safe and look after one another in these troubling times.

MORE PERFECT POSTURE CHAIR TESTIMONIALS

Jane - My business causes me to travel a lot and forces me to sit in some very uncomfortable chairs. They are so poorly designed, that after sitting in them for an hour or so, my hips and lower back start to ache and tighten up respectively as compared to me sitting in my Perfect Posture Chair for up to 11 hours in one stretch. When I get up out of the Perfect Posture Chair there is no aching or muscle tightness in the hips and lower back respectively. The other change that I failed to mention before is I would suffer from headaches by the end of sitting in ordinary chairs, whereas I have not had one headache since acquiring the Perfect Posture Chair.

Josh - Before my Perfect Posture Chair, I used to have a chair with armrests. I noticed that I had difficulty in getting the chair under my workstation and so lowered the chair down so I could maneuver it under the desk height.
However, no sooner had I done this I started to feel my lower back tighten up. I also noticed the armrest's failure to allow me to get close to the table, I sensed I was bent forward with rounded shoulders in order to use the keyboard. This caused mid-back and neck aches to start to appear. I then learned about the Perfect Posture Chair and all its benefits and decided to invest in trying to correct my posture when at my workstation. Since the acquisition of the Perfect Posture Chair, I have been able to maneuver under the table without impedance while I am sitting perfectly upright, and following the advice where to place my monitor in Dean's previous posts with amazing pain-free results.

PERFECT POSTURE CHAIR TESTIMONIALS

Jon - 22 hours sitting at my workstation while now sitting in the Perfect Posture Chair for a month has seen an enormous improvement in my posture while also noticing a decrease in muscle fatigue in the back plus there has not been pain in the low back or hips by the end of the day. This is comparing the opposite effects I was experiencing when sitting in my old office chair for 22 hours.

Dallas - Before the Perfect Posture Chair, if I had sat at my workstation in an ordinary chair for more than a couple of hours, I would start to experience an ache in the base of my neck and over time a headache would start to manifest and my eyesight would start to decline in visual acuity. However since I have been using the Perfect Posture Chair, my posture has improved remarkably while at the same time I haven’t had any manifestations of headaches, neck pains or visual problems.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE BODY

Over the last 20 years the number of vehicles on the roads has increased exponentially, placing the vehicle driver under an enormous amount of stress. This is proportionate to the increase in the number of vehicle accidents.

These accidents can be varying in mechanisms: Head on Nose to Tail Side on Rear ending. A study has shown that a car making contact with another from behind at between 9-15 mph can cause up to 5G forces on the neck, shoulder and upper back musculoskeletal structures.

If, at the moment of contact, the driver of the car being hit from behind is either looking sideways, in their mirrors, or down on their mobile phone etc, there will be extra vector forces transferred to the already under duress musculoskeletal structures, creating additional injuries to the soft tissues of the neck, shoulders and upper back.

So, if anyone is involved in a Road Traffic Accident, go seek professional advice and treatment immediately from either Spinologist, Chiropractor or Osteopath to help avoid any long term side effects.

PERFECT POSTURE CHAIR TESTIMONIALS

I would like to share with you the experiences the people who have purchased the Perfect Posture Chair with there being a lot of overlay with their experiences and so I’ve selected a couple for your interest:

Testimonial from Guy - 10 hours a day I’m sitting in the Perfect Posture Chair has seen a reduction in the tension on the low back while noticing a decrease in muscle fatigue and pain while at the same time noticing an improvement in my posture. Previously if I was sitting in my ordinary chair I was always feeling restless with an ache across the low back migrating upwards to my shoulder blades.

Testimonial from William - 37 hours at work is either sitting at work (28 hours) or at home (9 hours) and since sitting in the Perfect Posture Chair I have noticed a major change in my posture while noticing no low back, mid-back and neck aches and pains as compared to when I used to sit in the old office chair. In fact, I was having to get up and move about every hour or so to stretch the low bank and neck.

I would like to draw your attention to 3 photos with a gentleman sitting at his workstation using the Perfect Posture Chair, using an armrest chair and a picture of the Perfect Posture Chair by itself in front of a workstation.

Picture 1: At first glance you’ll automatically notice how straight the gentleman’s back is with the head sitting perfectly over the shoulders, while the chin is horizontal to the floor meaning there is no head tilt down. This head position helps maintain the neck curvature while at the same time this gentleman has placed the center of the monitor screen at his eye height. The other noticeable feature is the gentleman has his chair height in the correct position, as the angle behind the knee is roughly 120°. As mentioned in previous posts, this angle will prevent the hip bones from rocking backwards, therefore preventing the lower back from flattening out. This angle will also help disperse the forces sideways to the buttocks and then down the back of both thigh bones.

Picture 2: You’ll notice that there are no armrests to impede the chair and the gentleman from getting close to the workstation top. You’ll also notice the recess removed from the seat base. As previously mentioned in other posts, this recess allows the spine to be suspended without the seat base applying any forces or pressure on the tail bone initially and in doing so preventing the pressure to filter up through the spine. Lastly, the height of the back of the chair has been calculated to keep the back straight while creating support of the mid-back region. This perfect posture will remove tightness and tension in the hips lower back and mid-back muscles.

Picture 3: This is an armrest chair and instantly you’ll notice how the armrests are preventing this gentleman from maneuvering his chair under the workstation. In doing so the height of the chair is below 120° verging on 90°, therefore, causing his hips to rock backward, flattening out the lower back and causing him to over bend at the workstation. He can’t use the monitor as he is seated too far away from the workstation to operate the keyboard and so he slouches forward to use the laptop. Very poor posture.

So, this is a classic example of how the Perfect Posture Chair can significantly reduce poor posture and therefore all the related symptoms of discomfort attributed to poor posture at the workstation.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT TREATMENT

There is a huge debate regarding when it is appropriate for a recipient of a road traffic accident (RTA) to attend a Spinologist, chiropractor, osteopath or physiotherapist.

The answer was provided in some research done by an American Insurance company back in the early 1990s, where their findings showed the quicker the recipient seeks treatment, the quicker the recovery of the recipient injury(s).

These injuries are inadvertently caused by the ligaments that help hold the bony structures of the spine in their correct juxtaposition. They get stretched, therefore destabilizing the spine. Once the spine is destabilized and the ligaments are stretched, the muscles of the spine especially the cervical (neck) spine go into a spasm to help any unnecessary movements while the body tries to organize and start the healing process.

So, the recipient of an RTA should seek out treatment immediately. If the Spinologist, chiropractor, osteopath or physiotherapist suggests some form of imaging is necessary, then they will schedule some imaging. The purpose of immediate treatment is that once the spine bones have been placed back in their juxtaposition, the ligaments will then return to their original length, starting the stabilizing sequence with the help of the muscles.

Once the muscles sense the ligaments are structurally sound enough to resume stabilizing the structures of the spine, the muscles will then start moving each vertebra through their own range of motion without causing undue stress on the ligaments of the spine.

Who do you go to see first is inconsequential, but the adjustment should be performed by a spinologist, chiropractor, or osteopath while any soft tissue treatment be either a physiotherapist or massage therapist.

ARMRESTS AND POSTURE AT THE WORKSTATION

Chairs with armrests not only have a question mark because the actual seat base and backrest cause the user to gradually have poor posture while sitting in front of the monitor at their workstation; but they also have the addition of dealing with the armrests.

The problem in having armrests is that they prevent the chair from getting close enough to the workstation to allow the user to rest their forearms on top of workstation.

With a lot of workstations, their heights are fixed, so this combination will cause the user to sit forward in the chair.
Sitting forward, with either the keyboard forward or back, will still cause the user to lean forward in their chair, changing them from a straight back upright posture to a round-shouldered, curved back, craned head posture.

This poor posture will only cause tightness, stiffness and soreness in the low back, shoulders and neck muscles.

However, sitting in the Perfect Posture Chair will allow the user to sit forward under the workstation while sitting upright and resting the forearms on the workstation. This perfect posture will reduce low back, shoulder, neck tightness/stiffness, and pain.

What happens if you are using a Laptop and NOT a computer monitor?

The principles of where to place your laptop in front of your eyes are fundamentally the same as with your computer.
Once sitting correctly at the workstation, the center of the laptop screen should be at eye level or even slightly higher.

To negate the keyboard of the laptop, there are bluetooth/wifi keyboards that sit on top of the workstation and can be synced with the laptop.

However, when the laptop is used on the workstation the angle at which the head is tilted downwards is roughly 60° which as mentioned in a previous post, 60° head tilt will generate 27kgs of force in the neck, upper back and shoulder muscles.

The other significant postural change is the internal rotation forward and down of both shoulders. The pain and muscle tightness when working the laptop as mentioned can cause a various range of symptoms ranging from headaches, referred pain down the back and arms, lifting the head up or the turning of the head and neck while there may be some eye acuity changes too.

Finally, if you are working dual side by side screens at the workstation and the laptop is one of them, again the principles again are the same with the center of both screens being at least at eye level or slightly higher height with the bluetooth/wifi keyboard on the workstation.

POSTURE IN THE WORKPLACE AND YOUR MONITOR POSITIONING

Once your seated or standing height is in the correct position at your workstation, the next step or item to address is the height positioning of the monitor.

There is an easy way of finding out the correct height for the monitor. Place and balance either your mobile phone or a book on top of your head. Then, looking straight ahead, point to an imaginary spot in front of the eye line. This is where the center of the monitor screen should be placed. In fact, it is better to have the center of the screen slightly higher - NOT lower - because if lower the neck curvature will start to flatten out.

Once the neck curvature starts to flatten out, this will over time lead to increased pressures and stress to the neck muscles, the joints of the spinal bones of the neck, the discs of the neck, and inevitably the nerves in the neck causing referred pain down the arm.

Head dropping down, craning of the chin, the rounding of the shoulders, and slouching in the chair or standing...failing to address the monitor height is a natural progression for the person's posture to start to deteriorate.

SCREEN POSITIONING when using the PERFECT POSTURE CHAIR

To aid the Perfect Posture Chair in creating the perfect posture when sitting is then determined by positioning the monitor screen in relation to the person sitting at the workstation.

Studies are now showing that when your head is tilted downward by 15°, this increases the forces on the neck muscles by 12kgs. Accompanied by the internal rotation of the shoulders while 60°, your head tilted down will increase the forces on the neck muscles by 27 Kgs and cause even greater internal rotation of the shoulders.

An easy way to demonstrate where the monitor screen height should be is this: when sitting on the Perfect Posture Chair in front of the monitor, balance your mobile phone on your head, then look straight ahead with the center of the monitor approximately 1” above the eye line. This means there is no flattening out of the neck curvature while avoiding any head tilt downwards while preventing internal rotation of the shoulders...

Unfortunately OSH are still believing the old Department of Labour's manual of 15-20 years ago, recommending that the monitor should be placed 15° below the eye line. In performing this, the user's head will naturally tilt 15° downwards flattening out the neck and creating at least 12 kgs of force to the neck muscles and rotating the shoulders internally.

Once sitting at the correct height in the Perfect Posture Chair, and the workstation and monitor heights have been decided, this will allow sitting at the workstation a very pleasurable experience.
