I’ve been avoiding exercises, such as deadlifts since I hurt my back. Should I go back to doing them?

Yes, hip hinges are great for working on your core, glutes and posture. These exercises need to be progressive and are generally non compressive for the lower back. Therefore making them very effective for strengthening and stabilising the lower back, and reliable for daily movements such as bending over and picking up things.
