🎯HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is extremely common, affecting about 4 out of 5 people at some point in their lives. It spreads easily through close contact, so most people will encounter it even without vaccination.

💙With HPV Awareness Day here, it’s a timely reminder that everyone can take steps to protect their health. The HPV vaccine guards against the strains that can lead to several types of cancer and is fully funded in New Zealand for people aged 9–27 through the Ministry of Health’s HPV Immunisation Programme. People with a cervix should also stay up to date with regular cervical screening.

🩺You can book your cervical screening or HPV vaccination with us anytime. Learn more about HPV here https://www.hpv.org.nz/about-hpv/about-hpv

❓Did you know your bones gradually weaken over time as they lose density, making them more likely to break? This is called osteoporosis, and it’s more common in women over 50 and men over 75.

🎯Some bone loss is a normal part of ageing, but things like low vitamin D, not being active, reduced hormone levels, and certain health conditions can increase the risk.

💙Treatment looks different for everyone and is based on bone‑density scan results, your age, medical history, and how advanced the condition is. The best approach is to take steps early to keep your bones strong.

🚰Most of us are used to turning on the tap and trusting the water that comes out. But occasionally, bacteria such as E. coli or coliforms can be present in drinking water — especially after heavy rain or wild weather.

🎯Across New Zealand, most drinking water is treated to remove harmful bacteria, viruses, and other organisms. If you’re unsure whether your water supply is treated, you can check here: https://healthify.nz/hauora-wellbeing/d/drinking-water-safety

🩺If there’s ever doubt about your water quality, or if an issue has been identified in your area, boiling your water for at least one minute is a simple way to make it safe. And if you start feeling unwell, it’s a good idea to get in touch with your healthcare provider.

💙February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month—and awareness can save lives

🎯Did you know that around 16 out of every 1,000 women will develop ovarian cancer in their lifetime? While factors like genetics, BRCA mutations, and age can play a role, many people are diagnosed without any clear cause.

✅That’s why knowing the symptoms matters. Understanding what to look out for and checking in with your healthcare provider if something doesn’t feel right can make a real difference.

💟February marks Big Heart Day, a time to support the Heart Foundation and shine a light on how we can all look after our heart health.

🎯Heart attacks remain one of the leading causes of death in New Zealand, and the everyday choices we make, like staying active, eating well, quitting smoking, and managing our health risks, can make a real difference.

❗It’s just as important to recognise the early signs of a heart attack. Pain or discomfort, dizziness, unusual tiredness, shortness of breath, sweating, or nausea can all be signals that something isn’t right. If you think you or someone nearby may be having a heart attack, don’t wait. Call 111 straight away.

🩺If you’d like to understand your heart health better, book a check‑in with your practitioner. You can also get an early sense of your risk using the Heart Foundation’s My Heart Check tool: https://www.heartfoundation.org.nz/your-heart/my-heart-check

☀️ With summer in full swing and holidays keeping us busy with beach days, it’s easy to forget one simple thing your body needs all day long: water.

🎯When your body starts running low, it sends a clear signal of feeling thirsty. Dehydration can begin after losing just a small amount of body water. You might notice thirst, reduced energy, flushed skin, a faster pulse, or nausea. As dehydration worsens, symptoms can progress to dizziness, headaches, difficulty breathing, and trouble swallowing. Severe dehydration can be life‑threatening.

💧This summer, keep hydration front of mind. Carry water with you, take regular sips, and listen to your body’s early signals. Staying hydrated helps you enjoy every moment of the season, safely and comfortably.

☀️ As the Christmas break begins and summer holidays get underway, many of us will be enjoying the beach, backyard BBQs and outdoor walks. It’s the perfect time to relax and celebrate, but it’s also important to remember that too much sun can cause real harm.

Sunburn doesn’t just sting in the moment; it damages your skin, speeds up ageing and increases the risk of skin cancer later in life. Fairer skin burns more easily, but UV radiation can damage skin of any colour.

This summer, be sun smart:
✨ SLIP into a long-sleeved shirt or find some shade
✨ SLOP on sunscreen of at least SPF30+
✨ SLAP on a wide-brimmed hat
✨ WRAP on sunglasses to protect your eyes

🏖️Enjoy the sunshine safely and make the most of the festive season. Learn more about staying sun smart:https: https://healthify.nz/health-a-z/s/sunburn?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email%20marketing&utm_campaign=Healthify%20Tips%20-%20December

☀️ Summer is here! That means more time outdoors enjoying parties, picnics, and barbecues. While you’re soaking up the sunshine, it’s important to remember the four golden rules of food hygiene: clean, cook, cover, and chill. Following these steps helps keep your festive food safe from bacteria like Campylobacter, E. coli, and Salmonella, which love the summer heat and can turn holiday feasts into food poisoning disasters.

🍗 Food safety matters. From handling chicken properly to keeping cold food cold, staying safe on the BBQ, covering and refrigerating leftovers, and even planning ahead for your holiday ham — these simple habits make all the difference. Read on to learn more: https://healthify.nz/hauora-wellbeing/f/food-safety-tips-for-summer?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email%20marketing&utm_campaign=Healthify%20Tips%20-%20December
