Check out this fantastic post by Eat Well NZ. A very timely reminder to not get sucked in to the yo-yo dieting that is often pushed upon us in the form of New Years resolutions at this time of year. Let’s all make a new goal this year- to learn to be happy in the body we are in.

X

It’s not surprising most of us are not happy with our bodies. We live in a world where there is constant pressure to look a certain way and larger bodies are often discriminated again. We associate thinness with happiness, fitness with muscles and the ‘ideal body’ with the ideal life. But the ...

New Blog Post!

Summer is fast approaching and with it comes end of year work parties, Christmas and New Years. It is hard not to get sucked in to feeling guilty about eating certain foods. This is a timely reminder for everyone to let go of that pressure, establish healthy relationships with food, focus on spending quality time with your friends and family, and enjoy a relaxing break.

We’ve all heard that friend announce they’re “shredding for summer”. Maybe they do manage to lose 5kg, just to binge out on Christmas day and put that weight st...

Some Friday inspiration 🌟

This weekend aim to stop being ruled by food and thinking of food as good or bad. Start listening to your body and instead of asking yourself "can I have this" or "am I allowed this" ask yourself "do I want this". Instead of thinking I have exercised therefore I can eat, think I eat so I can exercise.
Changing the way we think is the first step to becoming a happier, healthier you.

Enjoy your weekend 💕

There has been a bit of discussion recently about the price of fresh fruit and vegetables in New Zealand. I even noticed the price of cherry tomatoes at the supermarket, some going for upwards of $7! In saying this however, hubby and I did our vegetable shop at the local Farmers Market today and we got all of our vegetables (plus extras) for the week for less than $40. Being healthy does not need to be expensive.

So some tips to make your food shopping affordable

1. Choose seasonal fruit and vegetables.

2. Source the produce from local suppliers such as farmers markets

3. Reduce waste by utilising all of the different parts of the food I.e. the stalk of the broccoli and the leaves from beetroot.

4. Frozen vegetables are a good alternative and if you have any left over vegetables, you can blanch them and freeze them for a later date.

I am now off to put some of the vegetables to use in a bacon hock soup 👍

This is an interesting article about the usage of sport supplements in the fitness industry, especially protein powder! Many of us already consume the required amount of protein and any extra is often oxidized (used for) fuel. Not only are protein powders really expensive, the protein we get from our food also contains essential vitamins and minerals which makes it more "biologically valuable" than the protein from tubs. This is why it should never be used to replace the protein we get from our food. This article doesn't just cover protein so if your interested in or using sports supplementation, have a read :)

Are sports nutrition supplements really essential for helping us to achieve our personal bests, or expensive placebos?
