Today we celebrate the International Day of Older People

A time to celebrate the value of older people and acknowledge their contributions to our communities; in the work place, as volunteers, as caregivers and as whole people, with dreams, aspirations, wisdom and experience.

International Day of the Older Persons was observed for the first time in 1991 so has been running for over 30 years. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the issues affecting older persons. It also provides an opportunity to take steps to demonstrate respect. Older people are caretakers and custodians of traditions and so much knowledge and information are held within their experiences and memory.

Driving Miss Daisy Drivers are all Dementia Friends, providing a valuable service for people living with dementia by offering not just transportation, but also companionship, support, and a personalised approach to help them maintain their independence and quality of life. World Alzheimer's Month/ Day is about raising awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and the need for continued support throughout the progression of Alzheimer's and other dementias. Let's break the stigma and support those living with Alzheimer's and other Dementias.

Each day 74 Kiwis hear the words, “You have cancer.” Daffodil Day is a chance to show your friends and family affected by cancer they’re not alone.

Daffodil Day is about donating in order to protect future generations of New Zealanders by helping to fund world-leading cancer research and vital prevention programmes.
