Yoga is the perfect antidote for a body out of balance or a stressed mind. The practice of yoga creates an intimate connection between our physical bodies and our mental state, and therefore with ourselves. It helps us to manage the stresses and anxieties of our daily lives benefitting us and those around us. The studio is set in a light-filled, purpose-built studio at 56 Surrey Crescent, Grey Lynn - minutes from the heart of Auckland. Our high stud, natural light, gorgeous bamboo floors and city views create an ideal environment for your practice. This afternoon with the wonderful Neal Ghoshal offers a wonderful opportunity to retreat, allowing yourself to relax deeply and engage in nurturing and compassionate rest.

We will explore some of the foundational principles behind Restorative Yoga including:

Yielding towards the earth - an active and conscious softening of the body.

Finding optimal breath support.

Using props such as blankets, cushions, and bolsters to provide profound support and exceptional comfort.

Learning to Be, and coming to experience Being as our natural home ground.

This experiential workshop will include iRest® Yoga Nidra Meditation as well as Restorative Yoga. Open to all levels – students, teachers, and anyone interested in Yoga, meditation, kindness and self-care.

Somatics is a gentle, awareness-based approach to movement that helps you reconnect with your body from the inside out.

This course draws specifically on Hanna Somatics — a method that uses slow, mindful movements to retrain the brain and nervous system, release chronic muscle tension, and restore natural, comfortable movement. Rather than stretching or forcing change, Hanna Somatics works through sensing and awareness, supporting lasting improvements in how your body feels and functions both on and off the mat.

You’ll learn to recognise and reverse sensory-motor amnesia, the loss of voluntary muscle control that occurs from repetitive stress, injury, or simply living in a fast-paced world. Using a technique called pandiculation, each session will help you unwind muscular patterns that keep your body stuck in cycles of pain or rigidity.

By the end of the course, you’ll gain a toolkit for releasing tension, moving with more freedom, and building a healthier mind-body connection—all without force, strain, or stretching.

No experience is needed. This course welcomes all bodies and is especially supportive for those managing chronic pain, limited mobility, or stress-related tension.

We are so excited to share that it’s been 10 years (yesterday to the day, in fact!) since I was handed the keys to Yoga Ground. I can hardly believe it. I almost missed the anniversary altogether — until Facebook Memories stepped in. Which feels quite fitting, because that’s exactly how this life-changing opportunity came into my world: my bestie tagged me in the “for sale” post after I’d quit my job, had no plan, and asked the universe to look after me. And it did! 🙂

What a wild, beautiful decade it’s been. We’ve been through a lot — ups, downs, up dogs, down dogs — and we’re still here, thanks to all of you.

Let’s get stronger together in 2026!

Introducing a new style of class for Yoga Ground. These “YG Strength” sessions incorporate a mix of hand weights, resistance bands, blocks, and bodyweight movement and focus on controlled repetition and time under tension to develop muscle, coordination, and endurance.

They are 45 minutes in duration with an optional cool down & stretch at the end.

Initially taught by Liana, Ashlee & Kara, who bring their individual style and experience to their classes, this offering will expand based on the response from our community. And so far, it’s already been amazing!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

We are looking forward to closing the chapter of 2025 and creating new stories in 2026.

It has been a tough year but it also reminded us that, even when life feels turbulent, there are places, people and practices that help to anchor us and we’re so grateful for yoga, Yoga Ground, and this community.

Our team is looking forward to another cycle around the sun, moving together, breathing together, and hopefully feeling a little lighter, together.

We are closed on New Year’s Day but have classes every day thereafter!
