Hello there, it's been a while since you heard from me here. Trust all I'd well with you and that you're coping if things are challenging. 😊

A study by researchers at the University of Southern California shows that exposure to music and music instruction accelerates the brain development of young children.

Music therapy for Syrian refugee children is just one of the many settings in which music therapy is used to help people

In Jordan's Azraq Refugee Camp, UNICEF-trained counselors use the power of music to help traumatized Syrian children find joy again.

A worthwhile day at Vic Uni yesterday. Good to see the correlation between music therapy assessment and clinical notes writing styles, and the Ministry of Education guidelines for using narrative assessment and Learning Stories in teaching assesssment and report writing. It's been quite a shift for teachers away from quantative based assessment - tick boxes, numbers and one-liner comments etc. However, narrative assessment is already best practice in some schools and is regularly used in early, primary and special education. I think it also has a place further up the education line. Dr Daphne Rickson has initiated a research project that is well grounded in clinical practice. The outcomes are sure to be invaluable to Music Therapists, the organisations employing them and the children receiving their services. Thanx to IHC for supporting the research. Meanwhile - a glimpse of the beauty above the dark clouds of yesterday ....

Good flight to Wellington for a one day training on narrative assessment at the Music Therapy School at Victoria Uni. Home again as soon as finished so no time to catch up with family and friends but am enjoying the company of colleagues. Photo was taken in the Welljngton cable car when here last year with Diane Austin.

So - Facebook has yet another new algorithm. 🙄 It seems like I only see the same small handful of my friends on my newsfeed anymore........so I’m doing a simple check, with your help.🙏🏻👍🏻🤗
Can everybody do me a quick favor?? 💕
If you're seeing this, leave me a comment - just a quick “meow” or your favorite emoji would be great. The more interaction you have with people, the more friends will show up on your feed.
Otherwise Facebook CHOOSES who you see. 😤

Important: once you comment, you are welcome to turn off notifications for this post so you don’t see all the comments after you.

Thank you- I would really appreciate it bc I want to see as many of you as possible 🙋🏻‍♀️💁🏾‍♂️👯‍♀️💃🏻
Feel free to copy and paste to your own wall so you can have more interaction as well!

What a lovely reason to go dancing!!

As we grow old, some of us start developing a rather negative relationship with the mirror because it starts showing off our grey hairs, our body’s saggy parts, and the many lines on our face

Rules for Life... 💖

1. Don't knock it ’til you try it.
2. Send Thank You cards for every act of hospitality — except another Thank You card.
3. Travel light through life. Keep only what you need.
4. Put cinnamon in your coffee, and twice as much when you miss me.
5. It’s okay to cry when you’re hurt. It’s also okay to smash things; but, wash your face, clean your mess, and get up off the floor when you’re done. You don’t belong down there.
6. If you’re going to curse, be clever. If you’re going to curse in public, know your audience.
7. Seek out the people and places that resonate with your soul.
8. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
9. 5-second rule. It’s just dirt. There are worse things in a fast food cheeseburger.
10. Happiness is not a permanent state. Wholeness is. Don’t confuse these.
11. If you’re staying more than one night, unpack your bag.
12. Never walk through an alley.
13. Be less sugar, more spice, and only as nice as you’re able to without compromising yourself.
14. Can’t is a cop-out. Don’t want to is perfectly acceptable.
15. Hold your heroes to a high standard. Be your own hero.
16. If you can’t smile with your eyes, don’t smile. Insincerity is nothing to aspire to.
17. Never lie to yourself.
18. Your body, your rules.
19. If you have an opinion, you better know why.
20. Study your curiosities and practice your passions.
21. Ask for what you want.
22. Wish on stars and dandelions, then get to work.
23. Don’t skimp on good sheets.
24. Fall in love often. Particularly with ideas, art, music, literature, food and far-off places.
25. Fall hard and forever in love with nothing but yourself.
26. Say Please, Thank You, and Pardon Me, whenever the situation warrants it.
27. Reserve I’m sorry for when you truly are.
28. Naps are for grown-ups, too.
29. Question everything except your own intuition.
30. You have enough. You are enough.
31. You are amazing! Don't let anyone ever make you feel you are not. If someone does....walk away. You deserve better.

What do you feel when you listen to this music? I feel the energy in my heart and entire upper body expand as it cleanses through the dross and stresses stored there. As the music continues I feel the expansion, cleansing and energised feeling moving through my belly and legs. After listening to it I feel peaceful, harmonised and balanced. I expected to need something in a lower vocal register to feel balanced but this music has been enough for today.
