A great weekend of POP UP PLAY in our parks! 🌞

We loved popping up at Accolage Boulevard Playground and Kopupaka Reserve over the weekend, bringing free, drop-in play to local whānau and communities.

At Accolage Boulevard Playground, organic play and word of mouth saw families from nearby streets join in and stay for meaningful, full engagement throughout the session.

Over at Kopupaka Reserve, whānau still turned up ready to play despite damp ground conditions, with strong participation across age groups and parents and children playing side by side.

These activations are a great reminder of how accessible, local play spaces can bring people together and create connection in everyday neighbourhoods.

Huge thanks to Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau, the Rodney Local Board, and the Henderson–Massey Local Board for supporting free community play 💛

A big week of play across Auckland!🌞

In mid-January, Pop Up Play delivered three activations across the city, connecting with over 200 tamariki and whānau through free, accessible play experiences, made possible by our funding partners.

On Thursday 15 January, we brought Pasifika play to Fun Fest VIP Day at Due Drop Events Centre, supported by Funfest Auckland where parents and children played side by side and tried activities like poi together.

On Saturday 17 January, thanks to Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau and the Puketāpapa Local Board@, families at Molly Green Reserve shared how they were “just passing through” but stayed to play as the local community continues to grow.

Later that afternoon, also supported through Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau and City Centre targeted rates, Myers Park saw strong engagement, with families choosing to stay and play together in the heart of the city.

Huge thanks to our funders and partners for supporting play in our public spaces and to everyone who stopped by to join in 💛

👉 We were also scheduled to deliver activations this coming weekend. However, due to the significant weather Auckland has experienced this week and the forecast ahead, these events will be postponed. We’ll share updated dates as soon as conditions allow and appreciate everyone’s understanding.

🌦️ Three Parks, One Mission: Connecting Communities Through Play!

This past weekend our team delivered Pop Up Play sessions across three Auckland parks - Flat Rock Park, Molly Green Reserve, and Myers Park - each with its own story to tell. 💛

At Flat Rock Park the weather didn’t hold up, but our team still helped the local community tidy the park before the rain set in.

At Molly Green Reserve tamariki loved the mini golf and active games, sharing smiles and laughter with whānau. We’ll be back there again in January.

And at Myers Park families from across Auckland and even visitors from overseas joined in games of soccer and frisbee, showing that play truly brings people together.

A huge thank you to Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau and our local board partners Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board, Puketāpapa Local Board, and Waitematā Local Board for helping us keep play free, inclusive, and full of heart across Tāmaki Makaurau.

🌞Pasifika Play across Tāmaki Makaurau!

What a weekend of connection, culture, and laughter, thanks to Out and About Auckland - Tāmaki Makaurau and our local board partners Henderson-Massey Local Board and Hibiscus And Bays Local Board.

At Kopupaka Reserve, tamariki and whānau enjoyed learning Poi and Knucklebones, while at Browns Bay Beach Reserve, our lively game of Tug of War had kids and adults laughing together in the sun.

Our Story

Our Approach?

We believe by using a holistic approach to engage people through play we can make it inclusive to all ages and capabilities. Thus, bridging the gap between those who are not as active and those who are already participating in regular physical activity

We say play because physical activity and being fit sometimes has a negative perception on those who may not be as active. Therefore, POP UP PLAY recognizes a need to change these perceptions so that play can be for everyone. We approach this issue through our unique delivery style which incorporate playing games and activities that can be adapted to suit the participants needs and for them to feel a sense of belonging. Through this, we see Pop Up Sports creating a positive flow on effect for participants in the long run and an opportunity to thrive in their community.
