Saturday morning clinics are back!

Did you know that this summer, Sports & Spinal Physiotherapy funded a new surf lifesaving initiative called the Bethells Evening Summer Team (BEST)?

Problem:
❌Bethells Beach is 7th deadliest in NZ 🌊
❌Surf Patrol finishes at 5pm each day 🚩
❌At peak 1-2 rescues occur after hours 🛟
❌Lifeguards responding can take 10min ⏰

Initiative:
✅Observational patrol 3 Snr lifeguards 🔭
✅Peak-weekends & anniversary day 🎉
✅From 5pm-8pm (after flags closed) 🌅
✅Goal of no preventable drownings 🏊‍♀️

Results:
🎯 311 preventative actions on 962 people
🎯 15 evening shifts + 135 volunteer hours
🎯 15 lifeguards-20% female,1/3 < 20yr age
🎯 Zero rescues and 0 drownings achieved

Next steps:
🏆 The BEST trial was a success and provides a framework to operationalise peak season extended hours patrolling at busy surf beaches - to meet public usage 🇳🇿
