I took one for the team this weekend… 😉

Hot cross bun vs hot cross bun. But not all buns are created equal.

On one side: a keto hot cross bun.
On the other: a regular hot cross bun.

same occasion.
Very different outcome.

📉 Keto bun → smooth, steady blood sugars.
📈 Regular bun → hello spike… and the crash that follows.

And here’s the interesting part…
This isn’t about calories.
It’s about how your body responds to what you eat.

Because when your blood sugars spike:
→ energy dips
→ cravings kick in
→ fat storage becomes easier

And when they stay stable:
→ energy feels consistent
→ hunger is controlled
→ your body is in a much better place to burn fat

This is exactly why two people can eat “similar” foods…
and get completely different results.

Or why you can feel like you’re doing everything “right”…
but still struggle with energy, cravings, or weight.

Food isn’t just fuel.
It’s information for your body.

And your blood sugars tell the story.

I sit and talk all day to people about the impact of higher carbohydrate meals.....the blood sugar roller coaster that leads to energy crashes, inflammation and weight gain.
Then I explain how when you eat low carb meals, even if the calories are the same, the impact is completely different.
These pictures show it more powerfully than words ever can!
On Thursday I followed this standard meal plan:
- Thin vogels for breakfast. Bread roll with salmon & veges and 2 x feijoas for lunch. Home made butter chicken on rice for dinner.
On Friday I followed my usual low carb meal plan:
- Gerry's toast for breakfast. Gerry's bread roll, butter chicken, cheese and veges for lunch. Omelette for dinner.

Optimal health and weight loss is not just 'eating less calories', it's changing where your calories come from!!

Today's blood sugar data....
It's been a very long time since I had vogels, white bread or rice. Today's data shows why that is a very good thing!
Of course we are all individual and results are going to vary from person to person, but I am definitely shocked at how my blood sugars looked today, and how it made me feel.
I will write about it more in my newsletter tomorrow :)
Tomorrow I am going to eat similar meals with similar calories at a similar time of the day, but this time it will be low carb meals.

More really interesting results from the constant glucose monitoring today.....and I was especially happy to see how stable my sugars were after that protein pudding.....it was so delicious!
The highest my sugars went was up to 6.8 after dinner, which is still really good.
Tomorrow will be even more interesting.....I am going to have an entire day eating some of the typical meals people are eating when they first come to see me, ie standard NZ food! Think bread, rice etc. Not overeating, just eating a similar amount of calories but looking at what carbs do to my blood sugars. All part of the experimenting.

I'm doing blood glucose testing this week, using the Dexcom one+ constant glucose monitor. Over the weekend It's been really interesting to see how steady my levels are with low carb meals! I will be testing some higher carb foods this week, to look at the difference. Yesterday I went to Keto by D for brekkie and we had a keto hot cross bun (with butter 😍) at 8am and my blood sugars hardly went up at all......will be interesting to see what a real hot cross bun will do.
side note....that keto hot cross bun was so delicious!!

It's always great to do a quick reset and see the results it can achieve....not just weight loss but also how good it feels to get back into control again!
