The highlight of the event was the joyful singing of Christmas songs by the talented children from Glendowie Christian Kindergarten .christian.kindy - they truly brought the Christmas spirit to life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this moment so special.
Wishing you all a season filled with warmth, joy and community. 🎄❤️

The energy was electric today at our AI workshop with none other than Matt Ensor - New Zealand’s leading expert in Generative AI.

Our team rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on with the future, learning practical ways to harness GenAI to transform everyday work. From demystifying the tech to unlocking its potential as a competitive edge, Matt made it all feel exciting and achievable.

A huge thank you to Matt for inspiring us and showing how AI isn’t just coming - it’s already here, and we’re ready to embrace it.

🌿 Finding Exceptional Care: Pamela’s Story 🌿

At 95, Pamela Kean made a bold move—from her three-bedroom villa to the new Care Suites at St Andrew’s Village. What she discovered wasn’t just a new home, but a new way of living—defined by warmth, dignity, and truly exceptional care.

💬 “This move was both practical and necessary, and I feel very happy about choosing to make this transition,” Pamela shares. “But what’s made all the difference is the incredible care I receive here.”

From compassionate staff to personalised support, Pamela feels truly looked after. Her days are filled with connection, comfort, and confidence. She still enjoys bridge games with friends and has embraced the vibrant social life in her new community.

✨ The Care Suites offer a unique blend of independence and support—so residents like Pamela can thrive.

Thank you for your lovely message. It was a real pleasure to host the Kalandra team at St Andrew’s Village. We greatly value our longstanding partnership and the shared commitment to excellence in aged care. It was wonderful to meet your new team members and to showcase the spaces, people, and philosophy that make our village so special. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and to supporting each other in delivering truly holistic care.🥰

Last week, we were warmly hosted by St Andrews Village in Glendowie — a long-standing friend and supporter of Kalandra. 🌿

St Andrews has shared industry insights, employed many of our graduates, and even partnered with us on training videos. It was a pleasure to introduce some of our newer team members to Lee and her wonderful staff.

We toured their leading-edge care suites and wider village, where the warmth of staff interactions, beautiful gardens, and stunning facilities truly stood out. From the movie theatre to the seaside restaurant, St Andrews Village continues to inspire us with its genuine commitment to holistic care. 💜

Happy International Day of Older Persons.

We marked this special day at our Care Centre with a stirring bagpipe concert by talented 13-year-old Thomas Bottomley, filling the air with music, memories, and joy.

This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights,” highlights the vital role older persons play as leaders, advocates, and changemakers.

Residents enjoyed a warm and uplifting afternoon of live music and a delightful high tea, celebrating the dignity, connection, and lasting contributions older persons make to our community.

Celebrating Diversional & Recreational Therapy Week – 18 to 24 September.

We recently celebrated the incredible work of our Diversional Therapist, whose creativity, compassion, and dedication bring joy, purpose, and connection to life at St Andrew’s Village. Their role goes far beyond organising activities—it’s about creating meaningful moments that uplift spirits, foster friendships, and support emotional wellbeing.

From themed events and music sessions to quiet one-on-one interactions, their presence makes a lasting impact on our residents’ lives. Diversional therapy is a vital part of holistic care, helping individuals maintain their identity, independence, and sense of belonging.

We’re proud to recognise and thank our Diversional Therapist for the heart they bring to our village every day. These photos capture just a few of the beautiful moments we shared during the week—thank you for making it so special. 🥰

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a distinguished delegation from Hangzhou, China, led by Mr Zheng Ying, Deputy Director of the Hangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau. The group included senior representatives from local civil affairs bureaus and the Hangzhou Third Social Welfare Institute, one of the city’s largest providers of aged care and social welfare services, akin to our Ministry of Social Development.

Their visit to St Andrew’s Village was part of an international exchange to observe best practice in aged care here in New Zealand. We were proud to showcase our care facilities and share insights into our approach to elderly care, community-based services, disability support, and workforce development within the sector.

It was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and build bridges across cultures, all in support of improving the lives of older people around the world.

We extend our thanks to Christine from Kalandra for making this happen and to our guests for their interest and engagement, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.

What a perfect day for the official opening of our Care Suites Garden.
Under glorious blue skies, our community gathered to celebrate this stunning new outdoor sanctuary. Board Trustee Peter Goodfellow officially opened the space with a ribbon cutting ceremony, while CEO Cheyne Chalmers delivered an inspiring speech about this exciting milestone for our village.
We were delighted to hear insights from Shane Wiles and the brilliant team at WilesRead who brought this incredible vision to life with gorgeous palm trees, native plantings, and modern outdoor spaces that flow seamlessly from our care suites. Special thanks to Savory Construction for their exceptional construction work, and to Waterworx for creating the beautiful fountain feature. We're also incredibly grateful to our dedicated garden team who worked tirelessly with the planting, cleaning, and preparing everything perfectly for today's celebration. Stuart from our pastoral care team offered a beautiful blessing, making the ceremony even more meaningful.
This garden isn't just beautiful landscaping - it's a space designed for connection, reflection, and wellbeing that will enrich the lives of our residents, families, and staff for years to come.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special celebration.
