A busy morning for Herald Crew on Trillian Trust Rescue this morning with a 5am tasking to a vessel who had struck a rock and was taking on water. Further response was then given by Auckland Harbourmaster and Police Rib 3 as we dealt with anti-pollution measures and looking after our member of the public. Great collaboration!

A bit of pre-summer engineering readiness and service for Trillian Trust Rescue this morning, as it’s shaping up to be a busy season already for Coastguard.

This haul out sees us complete servicing work on her Bow Thruster and Tender Garage, plus a summer bum scrub to keep her clean and efficient in the water.

Thanks to the support of Onshore Marine and McMullen and Wing this morning for an early start cracking in to getting the boat back in service for our communities. 🫡🔧✨

It’s been a busy few weeks for us, with a lot of training, crew grade assessments and interesting rescues!

This year to date is shaping up to be one of the busiest on record for us with a staggering 40% increase in incident taskings compared to last year, and last year wasn’t quiet!

With Labour Day just around the corner it’s all hands on deck making sure our team of over 100 volunteers and our fleet of vessels are ship shape and ready to respond - roll on summer! ☀️☀️☀️

Today, we honour the memory of Adrian Willyson Brask, a highly valued member of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (RS), who tragically lost his life during a rescue operation on 26 September.

As part of the global Search and Rescue whānau, we stand together in sorrow and remembrance. His courage, service, and commitment to saving lives reflect the very heart of what unites all of us who serve on the water.

We extend our deepest condolences and aroha to Adrian’s whānau, friends, colleagues, and all those affected by this profound loss.

Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui.
(Be strong, be brave, be steadfast.)

From all of us at Auckland Coastguard. 💙⚓️

Tomorrow, 9 October, the global search and rescue community will honour the memory of Adrian Willyson Brask, a much-valued member of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (RS), who tragically lost his life during a rescue operation on 26 September.

As a testimony to the risks inherent in search and rescue, we ask all SAR organisations to join us in honouring Adrian’s memory by lowering their flags to half-mast.

If you are taking part, please feel free to share any photos of your flags at half-mast by sending them to kondolanse@rs.no.

Our thoughts remain with Adrian’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.

*** Celebrating International Recognition! ***

What an amazing bit of news to celebrate! We're proud to announce that Auckland Coastguard have been selected as two of the ten international finalists for the 2025 Awards. The two awards we've been selected for are:

- Innovation and Technology: With our implementation and development of the Sea-Flux Vessel Management Software platform, that has allowed us to digitise all of our on water administrative functions, and significantly improve our ability to maintain our commercial compliance and SAR records.

- WomenInSAR: For Sarah, one of our dedicated Volunteers and Rescue Vessel Master's, for her contribution to Maritime Search and Rescue and her instrumental involvement and energy delivering the first WomenInSAR programme in New Zealand - empowering our women to claim their space and believe in their abilities.

You can tell we are super proud of the achievements for both Sarah and the Unit - wish us luck for the final selection which we should hear about on the 17th October! Like and Follow us for updates!

Fire Training! 🔥🧯

Our volunteers recently had the incredible opportunity to be trained by the Royal New Zealand Navy, getting hands-on experience in fighting different types of fires.

Crews got fully kitted up and learned how to safely put out fires using a range of extinguishers, including Foam, CO₂ and Dry Powder.

This kind of practical training is invaluable for our volunteers, ensuring they’re confident and capable if they ever face fire risks on or around our vessels.

A massive thank you to the Navy team for sharing their expertise 🙌 We’re really grateful for the chance to build our skills in such a realistic and professional environment!
