*** Celebrating International Recognition! ***

What an amazing bit of news to celebrate! We're proud to announce that Auckland Coastguard have been selected as two of the ten international finalists for the 2025 Awards. The two awards we've been selected for are:

- Innovation and Technology: With our implementation and development of the Sea-Flux Vessel Management Software platform, that has allowed us to digitise all of our on water administrative functions, and significantly improve our ability to maintain our commercial compliance and SAR records.

- WomenInSAR: For Sarah, one of our dedicated Volunteers and Rescue Vessel Master's, for her contribution to Maritime Search and Rescue and her instrumental involvement and energy delivering the first WomenInSAR programme in New Zealand - empowering our women to claim their space and believe in their abilities.

You can tell we are super proud of the achievements for both Sarah and the Unit - wish us luck for the final selection which we should hear about on the 17th October! Like and Follow us for updates!

Fire Training! 🔥🧯

Our volunteers recently had the incredible opportunity to be trained by the Royal New Zealand Navy, getting hands-on experience in fighting different types of fires.

Crews got fully kitted up and learned how to safely put out fires using a range of extinguishers, including Foam, CO₂ and Dry Powder.

This kind of practical training is invaluable for our volunteers, ensuring they’re confident and capable if they ever face fire risks on or around our vessels.

A massive thank you to the Navy team for sharing their expertise 🙌 We’re really grateful for the chance to build our skills in such a realistic and professional environment!

🚨✨ Flare Demo Training Night! ✨🚨

A few weeks ago, our volunteers had the opportunity to get hands-on training with a variety of marine flares, red handhelds and orange smokes, in a safe and controlled environment.

This type of practical training is invaluable for our crews, making sure they know exactly how these emergency signals work if they’re ever needed in real-life situations.

A reminder to everyone: distress flares should only ever be used in an emergency – setting them off for fun or practice outside of a controlled and approved training environment is both dangerous and illegal.

A huge thank you to OBC for hosting us – we really appreciate your support in helping us keep our training realistic and effective! 🙌

Today we celebrate our in the annual Coastguard New Zealand Awards of Excellence.

We were finalists in 5 awards this year including two entries for Rescue of the Year, one of which saw one of our committed crews 100 nautical miles from base dealing with a missing diver, resulting in critical medical assistance, helicopter support, and managing the incident with no backup in a remote location. A truly heroic effort from our amazing volunteers!

We weren’t lucky enough to take the final awards home this year, but all our finalists are stand out winners in our view! Join us in celebrating them, and congratulating all our other Coastguard units celebrating their award success!

Auckland Coastguard are the Largest and Busiest Coastguard unit in New Zealand, committing nearly 17000 on-water volunteer hours last year, and bringing nearly 900 people home safe to their families.

Each year we get busier and we’re already 40% busier than last year to date - and our volunteers need more support than ever - if you can support us - we appreciate you!
