Today I share my new venture that I alluded to earlier this week - Patreon!

I find writing to be extremely therapeutic. It is a way for me to make sense of complex experiences, and to put words to difficult emotions. Over the last couple of years I have struggled to keep an up to date social media presence and I think it’s because I miss being able to write with more depth and space.

So I am giving Patreon a try. Some aspects of the platform are paid, however my aim is to leave a fair amount of content unlocked too. I explain a bit more in my introduction post, so feel free to click through using my link in bio. ✨

Something new is on the horizon… I have been trying to make sense of yet more change and trauma in our world. I will be introducing a new way of trying to work through and communicate some of these thoughts and responses, stay tuned ✌🏾

Kia ora e te iwi! Well, after a very busy Christmas and a much more relaxed New Year I am well and truly into 2022 and back to work this week. I hope that you managed to have some kind of down time over the holiday season, or have a break planned over these coming weeks - it’s important to be able to unplug and slow down. So much so in fact that I switched my computer on yesterday for the first time since December 17 2021 - and had to wait half an hour for it to reboot and update itself! Take care coming back to mahi e te whānau, and this week I’ll look to share some posts around things I do to be a bit more gentle on the first week back ✌🏾✨ #2022

Repost : This is a beautiful karakia to help with self-regulation. Emotional self-regulation is being able to modulate your feelings or behaviours to a level that is tolerable. Karakia and other incantations are a great way to help with this. In this karakia, you have words to focus on and repeat, space to connect with your breath and a call to your atua (gods/higher powers), tūpuna (ancestors), loved ones to be alongside you as you work on self-regulating. He takoha ataahua ✨

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021: KINDNESS. Not a beautiful picture I know, but this was a way I showed kindness to my whānau today. I set aside some time in the afternoon to cook our dinner meal earlier as I had a online meeting in the evening. I know that me being away from my whānau makes things a bit harder in the evenings so I hoped making our kai / food ahead of time was a way to be kind and make things a little bit easier in that full on evening rush. It was tomato, basil and mushroom pasta by the way. Yum 😋

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021: tōku Whare Tapa Wha. TAHA WAIRUA: Today has been a long day of being on screens. Meetings, project planning, e-mailing, spreadsheets, banking, general life admin. It was a lot. So tonight, I knew I needed a rest. A cup of tea and a new book while lying on the couch is how I’m looking after my taha wairua tonight. 🫖 📚

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021: E p**a ki te Taiao. KŌWHAI: this tree is special to my whānau and I, and today I sat by it as we all got outside for some much needed warmth from Tama-nui-te- Ra / the sun 🌞. As we watered our garden and we picked some spinach for our dinner, we talked about our day and some of our hopes for the next little while. Simple but really nourishing things this ahiahi / afternoon. 💛
