Yes, there is something like 'good stress'. It's part of change, growth and adding zest to life AND it's usual SHORT-TERM. Long-term stress on the other hand has a lot of effect on many body systems and can trigger more complex health issues. So, best to do something about it when you notice first signs such as irritability, feeling tired or moody.
Did you know that even little things like cold water applications - even just cold water washes for face and feet - , deep breathing or watching a funny movie can support more resilience?

Do you feel that chill in the air? A timely reminder to nurture our immune system (IS), especially in the current environment!
Boosting vitamin C levels is a good start. Keeping zinc, selenium and vitamin D at sufficient levels helps healthy immune function too. I did my thesis about vitamin D - it's so important for our overall health including immunity. The sunshine vitamin is essential for balanced immune responses, both, for activating immune cells and keeping the IS in check - helping to keep it from going into a cytokine storm - as it can happen in Covid 19 infections.
A recent study from Auckland University shows that vitamin D supplementation to pregnant women and their babies reduced the rate of respiratory infections in the first 18 months of their lifes.
You might be surprised to hear it's estimated that almost half of NZ's population has vitamin D levels under the recommended 50nmol/L - many experts in this field say that this should be 80nmol/L even.
But let's remember to nourish our IS every day - in a 'well-rounded' way: by getting fresh air, gentle to moderate exercise, eating well, supporting healthy digestion, looking after our emotions and stress levels, surrounding us with positive relationships and laughing a lot :)
Wishing you well

Today is Earth Day. The theme is "Restore our Earth".
What it reminds me of is connectedness. Going out and feeling connected to nature makes us want to protect it. At the same time, being "out there" is good for our well-being.
Being out in nature always has a grounding effect on me. The photo is shot on a walk in the beautiful Waitakere Ranges, West Auckland. More and more research is done that tries to "measure" the health effects of connecting to nature. Exposure to the outdoors supports healthy gut flora, helps gut serotonin levels and has balancing effects on inflammation, blood pressure and mental wellbeing. CLick on the link to see an interesting study done with children and the influence of "Play&Grow" outside on their gut and mental state.
When need be, we can support our health with clinical nutrients and herbal extracts to achieve a shift or to help adapting to stressors. But this always works best with a balanced diet and lifestyle connected to a healthy environment around us. Happy Earth Day :)

Did you know?
March is 'Herb Awareness Month'.
I love my herbs! I get such a joy to grow and pick them in my garden and decorate our food with them - whole, as they are, chopped up or creating yummy pestos or dips. The photo shows my collection this morning for our breakfast. 🙂 A delight for taste and eyes. So easy and so healthy: herbs are powerhouses of vitamines, minerals and antioxidants!
Learning more about eadible herbs in our neighbourhood, and venturing out on a guided foraging walk, is no my 'to-do'list'
No matter how you find your herbs - harvest their goodness - enjoy - stay well

I just attended a 2-day International Oncology Summit - my first virtual conference event. Exciting!
It wasn't just exciting though. It was inspirational. As qualified natural health practitioners we are well placed to offer our support at every stage of a person's cancer journey. We can help to support health and wellbeing during cancer treatments and offer guidance on how to best back health from there on.
Facing cancer is scary, challenging, often confusing and life-changing at so many levels. And everybody's journey is unique.
Health diagnosis like this often trigger us to re-evaluate our life and health choices. And there's so much we can do.
I always feel humbled when people share this journey with me and I would be happy to assist you with your health journey.
