OilTribe

OilTribe Promoting wellness & holistic living In 2011 our family started on the journey of a more holistic and natural approach to healthy living.

We slowly changed our diet, we introduced essential mineral and vitamin supplements, we cut down on sugar, we cut down on gluten, etc. This all took place over 3 years, then in 2014 Samantha was introduced to essential oils. Over the next 12 mths we as a family began to experience many positives outcomes from using the oils until such time that even "Sceptical" Dad was fully convinced. Now we not only want to use the oils, we want to share them with as many people as possible so they too can enjoy the amazing benefits released by the use of these 100% pure essential oils!

The sometimes uncomfortable truth is that it’s up to us.

We, as the centre of our homes, decide how our homes feel. It starts and ends with us.

That’s unwelcome news on a day where we are tired and feeling frayed at the edges.

That’s also VERY welcome news on a day where we are tired and feeling frayed at the edges.

It’s up to us.

That means that despite what is going on in our homes, we can create peace. That feels very empowering.

We are in the middle of teenage hormonal chaos which at times feels like riding a bucking bronco. This is a normal stage of life for my teen but I cannot and will not allow the house to descend into emotional chaos to match the teenage mood swings.

I decide how the house feels.

And that feels pretty good 🔥

Today is the last day that the Nourish Guide is available. This particular offering is so time specific that it doesn’t belong in any other space than here and now.

The change of season from warm to cold right now means we naturally start to cocoon and wrap ourselves up in warmth and layers.

Plus we are emotionally depleted after two and a bit years of chaos. We need physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment in our homes NOW.

The Guide is what I lived last year during the last lockdown and I have been building habits and practices into my home since then. We feel nourished and my home feels calm.

For those of you who have your own copy and are starting to build nourishment into your homes- you got this. For those on the fence, you have today until 6pm to get your copy.

Then the Nourish Seasonal Guide’s purpose is complete. And that feels incredible 🔥

I used to be called Colour-Barbie at one of the design companies I worked at. Thinking back, that was slightly insulting (is it too late to be offended?) but actually I didn’t mind at the time. I have always known the power of colour and the ability to choose colour that influences how a space feels.

There's a whole field dedicated to this called Colour Psychology. But no need to get a PHD on it, all the info is available with a little keyboard tapping. This, my friends, sums up my entire approach to life…. I can find out what I need to know (and so can you!)

At home colour can be used to create a sanctuary, a welcoming haven. Soothing, dreamy colours or vibrant energetic colours? The choice is yours, it’s your home 💚

There’s a section dedicated to colour in the Seasonal Guide to help you create a calming, nurturing space with colour. The guide is available for 3 more days via this link: https://oiltribe.co.nz/seasonal-guides/

Every home has a natural daily rhythm. Like breathing, our homes expand and contract each day.

The mornings are about expansion, welcoming the day. This time of day is about opening up, gaining momentum and building up energy to fuel the day.

The evenings are about contraction, drawing inwards and preparing ourselves for rest and replenishing through sleep.

Aligning with the natural rhythm of your home is incredibly beneficial. Creating daily habits that attune to the rhythm of your home brings balance and calm.

These daily habits or practices are ideal for building a particular emotional state in your home. You can create a sense of calm, peace, nourishment or vitality with simple daily habits.

The emotional state I am focusing on right now is one of nourishment. The change in season from hot to cool is a contraction state of being that can be reflected in our homes.

Many of us are tired as the last couple of years have been hard on families. We need a season of healing and nourishment.

Simple things like the food we cook, the oils we use and the colours we surround ourselves with can help to create a feeling of safety and protection.

I have created a seasonal guide around the emotion Nourish. This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, rituals, food, books and more. There will be an e-book and a video plus the option of my Pinterest board and other resources.

We NEED nourishing homes right now and that is why I created this guide.

The Nourish Seasonal Guide is available via this link. It’s available for 10 days only. There’s an early bird bonus for orders before Monday (11th April tomorrow!) of access to my Pinterest boards.

Last night I watched an episode of Grand Designs where the owner of the house used colours in a way I have never seen before. The house was an absolute kaleidoscope of colours that were different in each room.

The presenter said something that struck me which was along the lines of “the owner has designed his home TO PLEASE HIMSELF”.

What a beautiful statement. Our homes should please us. If we are intentional about what we want in our homes, we should be free to use products and colours that please ourselves.

Anyone can create the home they desire.

This is why the Seasonal Guides I have created have room for expression. For your own personal preference. They are not a hard and fast formula of “this is what you should do”. The way you express nourishment in your home is unique to you.

The video part of the Seasonal guide gives you the why and how so you understand the philosophy of creating nourishment in the home. Then the e-book offers ideas and inspiration. The combination means you create a nourished home to please yourself, how good is that?

It’s here and I could not be happier. The Nourish Seasonal Guide is live 🔥

This guide is everything I have woven into my home over the last 7 months. I have moved us from a home that feels scattered and frayed to one that feels comforting and nurturing.

Make no mistake, my home is not perfect. I have two teens and there is chaos and hormones. Let’s call it exciting haha.

But

I know that we return to a baseline of peace so much faster than we did before. And that’s because of the nourishing habits that are embedded in my home.

We NEED nourishing homes right now and that is why I created this guide.

The Nourish Seasonal Guide is available via this link. It’s available for 10 days only and then its purpose will be complete.

There’s an early bird bonus for orders before next Monday (11th April) of access to my Pinterest boards. Then the cart closes next Friday (Good Friday 15th April)

When I mention that I am an interior designer it's usually the same reaction. A kind of “ohhhhh”.

I know what they are thinking and it’s “what does she think of my home?”, closely followed by “I wonder what HER home looks like?”

I am sure many people are surprised at how ordinary my home looks. I don’t subscribe to the magazine version of what a designer’s home should look like. I wonder how people live in many of the homes I see in glossy magazines.

The home I desire is loved and lived in. It is a nurturing container for the humans it holds.

My home has scratch marks on the dining room table from enthusiastic drawing, handmade crochet blankets on the sofas, a large black and white cat that sheds, and books lying everywhere.

I am a really good interior designer (I own that) and I am passionate about a house being a home. And that does not mean a curated staged and clinical space. A home lives and breathes around the people that inhabit it.

EVERYONE can have the home they desire. Whatever that looks like.

If I could wish anything for other women, it would be that they believe they can create the home they desire.

Because you CAN.

The home you desire is allowed to change, as the humans change within it. We can create an emotional space in our homes that reflects the needs we have.

And on that, if you need to create a sanctuary right now, because let’s face it we are a little tired after 27 months of crazy…… I got you.

My Nourish Seasonal Guide launches TOMORROW. This is about building in balance after a season of stress, busyness or depletion. If you are keen to pop on the waitlist, here is the link 🧡

It doesn’t matter how the day ends, there is always a fresh start tomorrow.

This Is so encouraging to me and something I lean on in my daily life. It doesn’t matter how chaotic the house was at the end of the day, I can start fresh in the morning.

If the chaos was emotional it can be hard to bounce out of bed the next day, particularly if you didn’t sleep well.

This is where embedded morning practices are absolute life savers. Practices that you do every morning to prepare your house for the day. Habits you don’t really have to think about that recharge your energy and lift the mood.

The mornings are about expansion and welcoming the new day. Gathering energy and lifting the spirits of everyone in the home 🔥

Mine are really simple.
:: Exercise first (for my own sanity)
:: Open the door or windows no matter how cold it is, even for 5 minutes to clear the air.
:: Tidy the kitchen bench if it wasn’t done the night before so I have a clean start.
:: Put music on.
:: Get the diffuser going in the kitchen with a happy uplifting oil blend
:: Then I start the breakfast and school lunches.

This simple habit of a series of easy tasks resets the whole house. It’s MUCH harder to be grumpy when the space smells good, sounds good and looks good (uncluttered).

I am sharing morning expansion and evening contraction practices around the emotional state of nourishment in the Seasonal Guide I am launching next week,

This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, practices, food, crystals and more.

My Dad taught me to look at things from all angles.

This would drive me crazy as a child as I always wanted him to take MY side in any argument. But he wouldn't and would look at the issue from all sides.

This was such a valuable lesson in critical thinking. It taught me that we don’t have to accept the way things are or what we are told. If we look at things from different angles we often come up with alternative views or new ways of doing things.

Take your home for example. You don't have to accept that the way it feels is unchangeable. You do not have to have a certain personality to have a specific emotional state in your home. And you don’t have to be a designer or stylist to make your home beautiful.

It’s about looking at it from different perspectives and finding solutions.

I am a passionate, deeply sensitive and excitable soul. None of this should add up to having a calm home. But my home IS peaceful. It may be loud and chaotic at times but it always returns to the baseline of peace.

I decide how my home feels. If I want to feel uplifting because everyone is a bit flat I change things and help to create that emotional state. If things feel chaotic and stressed, I do the same, change things up until it feels nourishing.

The more I go in life the more I realise that power lies in the home 🔥 And WE decide how our own space feels.

If you are keen to know how to do this I am creating a seasonal guide around the emotion Nourish, to launch early April. This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, rituals, food, books and more. There will be an e-book and a video plus the option of my pinterest board and other resources. There are so many of us in isolation at the moment. We need to spend 7 days at home with our families if someone tests positive for the virus.

Just like lockdown, isolation can feel heavy. The whole family together at home, for 24 hours of the day…that’s a LOT of emotional energy in one space.

During our own isolation period these are the simple things I did which made a huge difference:

:: Get the air flowing through your home. Throw open the doors and windows and allow the home to breathe.
:: Play music. I searched for “happy” on Spotify and picked a couple of playlists. I didn’t have to think too hard about it and the music lifted the spirits.
:: Use your diffuser! Oils like Lemongrass and Peppermint make the house smell amazing and are also known for clearing stale energy.
:: Tidy up. Keeping your home relatively tidy helps with the overall energy in the home. I use the word relatively as having everyone at home means tidy standards do need to lower (for your sanity).

The bottom line is that we ALL have the ability to shift the emotional temperature of our homes. We don’t have to put up with a heavy “yucky” feeling home. It’s easier than we think to clear the energy in our homes 💚

I am fascinated about the intersection between wellbeing and the design of a home 💚

The last two years have shown us all how important it is that a home FEELS good. The feely touchy-ness of emotional wellbeing can be created….with tangible things like physical design and habits.

The word NOURISH for my home was conceived in August 2021. On the 17th August 2021 we went into a Level 4 lockdown at short notice. The whole of my city was locked down once more and life just stopped. We could not go to work, schools were closed and only supermarkets and other essential shops were open.

We were faced with a situation outside our control and life felt very chaotic. My children were emotionally depleted at yet another lockdown and I knew there was no end in sight. We were at the mercy of forces so much bigger than ourselves and we felt powerless.

I decided that I would intentionally focus on nourishing myself and my family and make home a sanctuary. We could not control the outside world but we could decide that home would be a place of replenishing and healing.

Nourish is about pulling up the drawbridge. It’s about creating a cocoon of wellbeing in your home.

I am creating a seasonal guide around the emotion NOURISH, to be launched early April.

This guide encapsulates how to create nourishment in your home through colour, design, essential oils, rituals, food, books and more, that brings peace to your home.

The mornings are cooler now which is such a relief. I have absolutely loved this Summer in fact it’s been one of my favourites ever. But I am more than ready for the cooler weather as it’s been hot and humid summer!

Instead of heading outside with my coffee in the morning I am finding myself at the dining room table with a blanket over my knees looking out at the cat playing in the garden. I am naturally starting the process of being indoors more as the season changes and cools.

The cooler mornings signal the start of the contraction seasons of Autumn and Winter. The times of year when we draw inwards to spend more time within our houses. We cosy up and cuddle into our homes.

Autumn and Winter are times to nourish ourselves. To rest and restore. There is so much to look forward to in this coming season with warm colours, woody oils and snuggly blankets.

Are you a lover of cooler months? Or are you a die hard summer babe? I reckon we can be both 😉
