For products that need a more tailored approach, we offer a custom packaging service grounded in collaboration, technical expertise and manufacturing control. This process begins with understanding your product, your operational needs and the environment it will move through.

Our in-house team manages the full development pathway, from initial concept and design through to tooling, production and testing. Working closely with customers, we help develop packaging that supports product performance, regulatory requirements and long-term brand objectives.

We work with five core plastics, each selected for its performance characteristics, recyclability, and suitability for regulated industries:

PET : Clear, lightweight and strong. Commonly used for food, honey and health products where clarity and durability are key.

rPET : Made from recycled PET. Offers the same functional benefits as virgin PET, but with a significantly lower carbon footprint.

HDPE: A highly versatile plastic known for its chemical resistance and strength. Suitable for pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and personal care.

Plant-Based HDPE : Derived from renewable sugarcane. Performs like conventional HDPE, but with a reduced carbon impact.

PP (Polypropylene) : Durable and heat-resistant. Often used in closures and containers requiring higher temperature tolerance.

All materials are approved for food contact and, in most cases, meet both FDA and European regulatory requirements. They are also recyclable under New Zealand’s kerbside collection system.

All plastic materials used by Pharmapac undergo a rigorous internal approval process. We only select materials suitable for food contact and, in most cases, those that meet both FDA and European regulatory requirements.

This applies across our range of PET, rPET, HDPE, plant-based HDPE and PP each chosen for its performance, food safety profile, recyclability and safety.

Why do we design for efficiency as well as performance?

At Pharmapac, we recognise that resource efficiency is critical to long-term sustainability. That’s why we’ve invested in closed-loop water systems and energy-saving technologies that reduce our overall footprint without compromising output.

These systems allow us to reuse water, eliminate unnecessary waste and reduce emissions across our operations. They also support business continuity and help us operate more responsibly during periods of environmental strain.

Because high-performing packaging should come from a high-performing process.

Why we prioritise water and energy reduction in manufacturing.

Reducing water and energy use isn’t just about ticking sustainability boxes. It’s about creating a more efficient, resilient and future-ready business.

At Pharmapac, we’ve invested in energy-efficient systems and a closed-loop water process that helps us use resources more responsibly. This lowers our operating footprint, reduces utility costs and supports long-term environmental goals.

Less water waste means greater reliability during shortages. Lower energy use means fewer emissions and a more stable production system.

On top of this we have also added in two water retention tanks to capture rain water and utilise within our operations where suitable.

What does circular economy really mean?

A circular economy keeps materials in use for as long as possible. It’s about designing out waste, using recycled content, and creating products that can be reused or recovered instead of sent to landfill.

Pharmapac applies circular thinking at every step. From using post-consumer rPET and in-house recyclate to supplying packaging that fits NZ’s kerbside systems, our goal is to keep plastic in the loop and out of the environment.

Kicking off Plastics New Zealand Operation Clean Sweep Week at Takapuna Beach.

Today our team got together to run a beach clean at Takapuna Beach for Operation Clean Sweep, Clean Up Week.

As proud OCS member, we’re passionate about doing our part to protect our local environment.

It was great to get outside, make a difference, and have a few laughs along the way!

A huge thanks to the Pharmapac Team, Ally’s Mum Myra and Dylan from Alchemy Agency for joining in and lending a hand, awesome teamwork all around!

Weirdest Finds…

baby’s dummy
Un**es
Half burnt sleeping bag
Finger hand weight.
And a discarded boat rudder (which we left).

Here’s to a cleaner beach and a great start to Clean Up Week!

We will return on Thursday to do a clean after GuyFawkes.

Pharmapac offers an extensive range of stock packaging, but we also work closely with customers who need something more specialised. If you’re looking to match a specific brand colour or create a unique hue that stands out on the shelf, our team can develop custom colour solutions tailored to your needs.

Custom colouring is ideal for reinforcing brand identity or differentiating products in competitive markets. From concept to production, we manage the entire process in-house to ensure colour consistency, quality, and full traceability.

Our round PET pot range was originally designed for creams and gels, but it’s now also being used for honey, spreads and other food products. The clean shape and crystal-clear material offer a fresh way to present your product while delivering strength, reliability and shelf appeal.

PET is lightweight and impact resistant, making it less likely to break during transport and easier to handle throughout the supply chain. It also requires less protective packaging, reducing bulk, freight costs and unnecessary waste.

Compared to alternatives like glass, PET creates fewer emissions, uses less fossil fuel across its lifecycle, and leaves a smaller environmental footprint. Smart, simple and made to perform.
