🚀 HOW TO: BOOST YOUR IMMUNITY THIS WINTER ❄️

As the weather starts to cool, now’s a great time to give your immune system a little extra support. Healthy habits can help you stay well.

Here are a few simple changes that can make a big difference:

🥦 Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables
🚶 Stay active in a way that works for you (regular movement supports your overall health)
😴 Get enough sleep to help your body recover and recharge
🧼 Wash your hands regularly to reduce the spread of illness

A flu vaccination is also one of the easiest ways to protect yourself, your whānau and community this winter. Get in touch with reception if you’d like to book.

🌺 LEST WE FORGET 🌺

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who served our country and gave their lives for our freedom.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Ngā mihi māhana to all who serve, have served, and continue to serve.

🌏 FEELING OVERWHELMED BY CLIMATE ANXIETY? 😵‍💫

Climate anxiety has become more common across Aotearoa, especially following recent events. For many people, it can feel heavy and hard to switch off.

If you’ve been feeling this way, you’re not alone, and there are ways to support your wellbeing.

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand encourages people experiencing anxiety to focus on small, meaningful actions that help them feel more grounded and in control. This might include spending time in nature, connecting with others, or taking simple steps that align with your values.

They also have a helpful guide to looking after your wellbeing online 👉 https://mentalhealth.org.nz/a-guide-to-looking-after-your-wellbeing-online

Remember, even small actions can make a meaningful difference over time.

🛡️ DON’T WAIT FOR SUPER-K 🦠

You may have seen reports about a new flu strain, “Super-K” (H3N2 Subclade K), heading towards NZ.

Health experts are watching it closely because of how easily it has spread overseas. A higher number of flu cases could mean a more challenging flu season this winter.

WHO IS MOST AT RISK?

People aged 65 and over are most at risk of serious illness from the flu.

Pregnant people, young children, and those with long-term health conditions are also more vulnerable.

HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?

Getting your flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and those around you.

You can also help prevent the spread by staying home if you are unwell, washing your hands regularly, and covering coughs and sneezes.

REMINDER: The 2026 flu vaccine is now available at our practice. If you would like to book, please contact our team.

🔍 STRESS OR BURNOUT: KNOW THE DIFFERENCE 🧠

We all experience stress from time to time. It’s a normal response to busy days, deadlines, or unexpected challenges. For most people, this type of stress is short-term and improves once the situation passes.

Burnout is different.

Burnout builds up over time and doesn’t go away with rest alone. It can affect how you feel, think, and function day to day.

SIGNS OF BURNOUT MAY INCLUDE 👇

😞 Feeling emotionally drained or overwhelmed
🚫 Becoming detached from work or family life
📉 Loss of motivation or enjoyment in things you used to care about
😴 Ongoing fatigue, even after rest

If these feelings are sticking around or starting to affect your daily life, it’s important to talk to someone. Reaching out early can make a real difference.

You don’t have to manage it on your own. Support is available, and our team is always here to help.

🛡️ HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR FLU VACCINE YET? 💉

Flu season is around the corner, and now’s the best time to prepare.

While it may be mild for some, the flu can lead to serious illness and hospitalisation, even in otherwise healthy people.

Those most at risk include:

👵 Older adults
The vaccine is funded for those 65+. It can also help reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack, and support independent living.

🫁 People with underlying health conditions
Including diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.

👶 Pēpi and children under 5
Even healthy tamariki can become very unwell with the flu.

🤰 Pregnant people and their pēpi
The vaccine is safe, recommended, and free during pregnancy. It helps protect both you and your baby in those early months.

If you haven’t had your flu vaccine yet, don’t wait.

Get in touch with our team today to book your appointment and help protect yourself and your whānau this winter.

🤒 THE FLU HITS DIFFERENT 👨‍👩‍👧

They can feel similar at first, but the flu and a cold are very different.

A cold tends to come on slowly.

You might have:
• A runny nose
• A sore throat
• A mild cough

You can usually carry on with your day.

The flu is different. It hits harder and faster.

You’re more likely to have:
• Fever
• Body aches
• Extreme tiredness

It can leave you completely wiped out. And for some people, it can lead to serious illness.

That’s why getting the flu vaccine matters.

It helps protect you, and the people around you, too. Your whānau, your workmates, and your wider community.

Get in touch with our team to book your 2026 flu vaccine or to check if you’re eligible for a funded (no cost) vaccination.
