We were honoured and delighted to host the amazing Selah Hart (National Director of Hauora Māori at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora) here at Manu Ora recently 🤩 Selah's an incredible mana wāhine and widely respected leader in Māori Public Health, with her profound commitment to driving transformative health outcomes. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to find out more about our kaupapa and mahi. As the whakataukī reminds us, it’s important to “Whiria te tangata, toitū te mātauranga” (weave people together to share ideas and knowledge). So inspiring to spend time with you Selah! 💚

Kei te pēhea tō koutou rā whakatā? How was your weekend?

Our rōpū spent lots of it furiously dot-watching our own Dr Sophie competing in Godzone - a massive multi-discipline adventure race which started on Thursday, with the leaders expected to finish in a few days.

Soph’s team, Team Rab (7), is full of world-class experience. At the moment they are in the lead, with fierce competition from some young-guns in Team Fear Youth (9).

Follow along at onenzgodzone or online https://godzoneadventure.com/ar-races/tracking/ #

Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui Soph and Team Rab!

We are right with you. Whatever the result, we are incredibly proud!

November is Diabetes Action Month and yes, the month is nearly over… but your health doesn’t run on a calendar 💚

Mate huka (diabetes) affects many Kiwi whānau and, if left unchecked, can lead to serious health problems. The good news? Small steps now can make a big difference.

Take a couple of minutes to do the Diabetes NZ risk quiz 👉 www.diabetes.org.nz/are-you-at-risk-quiz (link in comments)

If your result worries you, or you’re just not sure, have a kōrero with your GP or our team here at Manu Ora.

It’s never too late to put your health first – future you will thank you for it 💚

Today's "World COPD Day" - an important day to help us raise awareness of COPD (It's short for "Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease" in case you were wondering)
Did you know? Around 15% of Kiwis aged 45+ live with COPD, and it’s the 4th leading cause of death here in Aotearoa – but many people don’t know they have it.

The main cause is smoking, and symptoms can include:
👉 ongoing cough
👉 more mucus/phlegm
👉 breathlessness
👉 frequent chest infections

COPD gets worse over time, but the *good* news is that further damage can be prevented, and treatments can improve your quality of life.

So if you’re worried about your breathing, smoking or v**e use, have a chat with your GP or nurse - or if you're a Manu Ora whānau (patient) you can reach out to us for a 'no judgements' kōrero. Early diagnosis can mean more good years with your whānau💚

Huge mihi to our whānau at Wairau Pā 💚
A couple of weeks ago, when the power went out, your loan of a generator meant we could keep our medical supplies at the right temperature and keep showing up for our community without interruption. That support made a real difference.

Also a special shout-out to Johnny Joseph and Taila Love for jumping in, picking it up, and getting it to us so quickly – total legends 🙌

We've been flat out with our mahi recently, but we didn’t want another week to go by without saying ngā mihi nui. Moments like this remind us what it really means to work together for our people – manaaki in action, community in action 💚

Do *you* know the signs? Today's World Diabetes Day - so let's take a minute to talk diabetes...

Did you know? Anyone can develop diabetes at any age. That’s why it's important to get tested if you, or the tamariki or rangatahi you know or care for is showing signs or symptoms of diabetes. You can check out the signs here > www.diabetesactionmonth.org.nz/know-the-signs (Thanks Diabetes NZ for the info 👍🏽)

Remember, the earlier diabetes is diagnosed, the better the chances of managing it well and living a full, healthy life. If you have any pātai or concerns, have a chat with us 💚
