Christmas was a fun, festive time in our home. Here we are decorating our trees, enjoying a visit from Santa and having fun trying out the Christmas props. Some of our residents also enjoyed quieter, more contemplative moments.

Christmas is a little different for each of us. It can be a time of joy and celebration – but it can also be a season that feels more heavy, quiet or complicated. However this Christmas finds you, we send warmth your way. May you experience moments of peace and comfort. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.

We recently marked National Awareness Week for Diversional and Recreational Therapy. This year’s theme is He Kākano, He Tipu – From Seed to Growth.

"Growth happens through care, nurture, and connection. Just as a seed needs soil, water, and sunlight, people flourish when they are supported with creativity, empathy, and companionship.” (Society of Diversional and Recreational Therapists)

Our activities team plans activities to support our residents’ physical, social and emotional needs. Their vital work helps our residents to feel good. It enhances their quality of life by building connection, bringing a sense of belonging and purpose, and helping to keep minds and bodies active.

Pictured are our wonderful activities team; Sheenary, Mary and Vicki.

Matariki is a wonderful time to remember, reflect and look ahead. We remember loved ones who have passed, and we celebrate the moments of love and laughter in our home. We share joy and stories, and we are grateful for the aroha within our rest home community. May the rising of the Matariki stars bring peace and connectedness.

Last month, we were lucky to have Claire come in to run a beading workshop for a small but eager group of residents in the Ngaio lounge.

Claire provided many beautiful beads of all shapes, sizes and colours. There were beads made from wood, large textured beads, alphabet beads, some that glow in the dark, and even some that change colour. The residents made bracelets and some chose to use the alphabet beads to write their name, or the name of a previous pet.

We shared a lovely time together that was both creative and social. The residents enjoyed taking away and wearing the bracelets.
