It's Magic Monday!!
Do you find it hard to ask others for help? I most certainly do, but recently I have asked for help and support from a lot of people, and it has lead to such great things and definitely greater connection, as the quote below states.
Why do we find it hard to ask for help?
Is it because we think it is a sign of weakness. I think for me, having to 'do it on my own' is something I decided growing up,. I grew up as the middle child of 4 and somewhere along the way I decided I had to look after myself, and not burden others with my issues, or ask for help. I thought that being this way made me courageous and strong and independent. Over time though I have come to realise that in fact, being this way is the complete opposite of this, and it just leads to struggle and loneliness.
I now believe that -
ASKING FOR HELP IS COURAGEOUS, AND IT SHOWS STRENGTH
I am currently going through some big changes in my life, and I have reached out to family and friends and asked for help, with both practical things and emotionally. People have been more than willing to help and have been there for me in ways that I did not even expect. Showing my vulnerability has brought me closer to the people I love, and shown me how much people genuinely care. People want to help, and be there and support.
If someone asked you for help, would you think of them as weak? I'm sure you wouldn't. I'm sure you would be more than willing to do what ever you could for that person, and that you would be glad they asked you.....so next time you need help, and you hesitate to ask for it, remember, it is not a weakness, it takes courage.
