What a vibrant start to Spring!

We’ve been soaking up the sunshine at Riverlution Café and loving the buzz of energy it brings to the Hub! There’s something about this season that fills our space with connection, creativity, and plenty of smiles.

One of the highlights has been the return of the Riverlution Market! It’s been wonderful seeing our community come together again — browsing local produce, handmade goodies, and toys, all while enjoying the tunes from our talented local buskers. It’s truly a Saturday morning treat for the whole whānau!

This month, we also launched our new bottle-top voting system — a fun and interactive way for you, our community, to help guide how we reinvest profits from the café. So next time you’re in for a coffee or a sweet treat, be sure to have your say — every vote counts!

Our space keeps evolving as a place for everyone to connect, create, and learn. The pool table and ping-pong table are now set up behind the café — come have a game, bring a friend, and chat with our team about how to access the gear.

And don’t forget about Crafternoons, every Tuesday from 12–2 pm! Bring along your paints, crochet, stitching, or any creative project, and enjoy some good company and inspiration. Everyone’s welcome — no experience needed. Crafty Combo special: a scone and hot drink for just $10.

🎉 Recycling Week: The Magic of Coffee Grounds! 🎉

Kia ora Whānau! It’s Recycling Week 2025, and today we're celebrating how we turn your morning pick-me-up into a garden superpower right here at Richmond Community Garden!

☕️ Our Coffee, Your Compost!
At the Riverlution Café, we're proud to serve delicious, high-quality coffee from Rad Roasting Co. – a fantastic local roaster! But the journey of these beans doesn't end in your cup...

♻️ From Brew to Bloom!
Instead of sending our spent coffee grounds to landfill, we give them a second life! All the coffee grinds from the café are collected and become a vital ingredient in our compost heaps.

Why is this awesome for our garden?

Nutrient Boost: Coffee grounds are packed with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are essential for healthy plant growth.

Soil Structure: They help improve soil aeration and drainage.

Worm Food: Our composting worms absolutely love them, turning them into nutrient-rich vermicompost!

This simple act of recycling our coffee grinds closes the loop, nourishing our soil and helping grow the fresh produce you see thriving in the garden. It's just one more way we're committed to sustainable practices every day!

🌬️ Weather Update & Site News 🌬️

Due to the strong winds tomorrow, our café will be closed, and only a small team of staff and volunteers will be on site for safety. Please avoid travelling to the site if you can.

Path & Lights Update:
Corde will start the lights installation and digging tomorrow — work will continue until the end of the month on the City to Sea pathway.

The new entrance (Vogel Street) and path are planned to be finished by Friday.

👩‍🌾 Teamwork and ideas sprouting at our Fungi Farm planning session!

Meet Inga 🌳
We caught up today at Riverlution for a Fungi Farm 🍄 planning session,and as always, Inga brought her incredible passion for living sustainably and working with nature.
Inga has been leading foraging workshops and tours throughout the Red Zone for years. She doesn’t just talk about sustainable living, she lives it every day.
If you ever get the chance to join one of her workshops, do it! She’s a treasure trove of knowledge and always so generous in sharing it. 🌿

We love the ParkRun crew and the energy they bring 🙌

What a difference a week makes! From last week’s sunshine to today’s soggy skies – but that didn’t stop 116 hardy souls from turning up to walk or run the course. Our hearts were warmed by the smiles and gratitude shared out there despite the rain. 🌧️👏

A HUGE mihi to our amazing volunteers who gave up their cosy beds to be there for our parkrun whānau – the true definition of hi-vis heroes. 🦺

And a special shout-out to the incredible team at Riverlution Cafe, who kept the coffee machine humming and spirits high. ☕
