Change is simple but not easy...

Anyone who knows me well, knows I'm passionate about contuous improvement. I've been on a journey to improve both the health of my business and also my own personal health.

I've been overweight for years and a simple post triggered something in me to want to change.

I think the hardest part about any improvement journey is the desire to want to change the outcome, but realize that you must also change the inputs. Many people desire the outcome but aren't willing to change any of the inputs, and that's living in a fantasy.

What I've observed is that the biggest gap in the world today is the gap between knowing and doing.

So as leaders how do we get the switch to trigger in our team for the desire for change? I find that creating this desire is the hardest part in any change. The concept I'm following is "show, not tell" It's pretty hard to argue with results, even if the process doesn't seem intuitive. The further down this journey I go I find the real things that make a difference seem counter intuitive. So I'm questioning every thing I've once believed to be true.

Here's a short video I did to show my journey to great health. I'm not there yet but we'll on my way.

Got a new camera this week, so having a bit of a play with AI to see what I can do. It's pretty cool to see how easy it can remove a back background, and replace it. Here Justin Marshall is assembling an Aignep SPA pneumatic cylinder. This is our new LH series with corrosion resistant end caps and s/s piston rods.

Its been a little while since I posted, I'm at my usual local cafe, Reality Bites Cafe & Catering Bishopdale I have the same breakfast every time.. a creature of habit.

As soon as I walk in today I'm introduced to a new staff member, (you know you respected as a customer when this happens).

So what was the most daunting thing on your first day? everything is new, new systems, new customers, new staff, new equipment.

This is one area where standards can help.

Over a year ago I observed a waste, every time they would ask me the same questions, what coffee, white or brown toast, how do you have your eggs etc. I would give the same answers. Being a lean thinker I sought out to make their job easier, so I asked for a copy of the docket, created my own custom one with the intention was to just give to them each time to save them typing it out, but they just put on the fridge.

So I hear in the kitchen the cafe manager Cody showing the new guy my order, I then mention to Raven the other staff member on that it is cool they are still using my list, she said with a smile it makes their job easy easier.

I also commented to Raven the other day that wow that coffee was quick, she said I start making it when I see you pull up.

So the key takeaways for me:
1. Some times it's the simplest of improvements make the biggest impact.
2. Standards should make the work easy
3. S.O.P should be simple and easy to understand at the point of use not in a dusty binder on the shelf

I've now made another improvement, laminated it made the additions / subtraction more visual, abs added my photo so new staff know who I am.

Ok, the sun is shining and it's warming up outside. This has been a long term project to improve the packaging of our Madgetech products. Multiple iterations, but I think I've got our standard set now. Thanks to the team Zealandia.Systems Liam Beale and Zane Reid for helping me get Bert (that's what's I've named my cnc router) going. For the record I brought Bert 2nd hand, but the support from Zealandia Systems has been great. It does help that they are just down the road, and are partial to the odd sausage roll.

What have you been upto this weekend? I've Been in the shop today with Bert. Thanks to Zane Reid for popping in to see how I was getting on, he lent me a 1/8" collet to get this job done and out. The guys at Zealandia.Systems are a great bunch. I really appreciate all the support I get, it audio helps that I'm so close to their shop.
